How to Choose the Right Lounge for Your Brisbane or Gold Coast Home
Choosing a lounge is one of the most important furniture decisions you'll make — it's the centrepiece of your living room and a place your household will use every day. The three key decisions are size, material and function.
- Measure your room before you browse. Note the total floor area and identify any obstacles — doorways, columns, TV positions, traffic paths. Allow at least 45 cm of walkway clearance on each side of the lounge and 40–50 cm between the sofa and the coffee table for comfortable leg room.
- Match the size to your seating needs. A 2-seater suits couples and small spaces. A 3-seater covers most families. A corner or modular sofa provides the most seating flexibility for entertaining and large households. For a quick reference, see the configuration guide table below.
- Choose the right material for your lifestyle. Fabric is breathable, comfortable and forgiving — ideal for families with children and pets. PU leather is easy to wipe clean and looks sharp but can feel warm in Brisbane summers. Air leather offers the look of leather with better breathability — a practical choice for QLD's climate. See the full material guide below.
- Think about added function. Do you need a sofa bed for overnight guests? A corner lounge with storage? Electric reclining for full head-to-toe comfort? Deciding on function before you browse narrows the field quickly and saves time.
- Visit a showroom if possible. The only reliable way to judge a lounge is to sit in it. Our five SEQ showrooms stock a wide range of display models across all categories — bring your room measurements and our team will help you compare options with no pressure.
Lounge Configurations — Which Layout Suits Your Space?
| Configuration | Typical Footprint | Seats | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-Seater Sofa | 150–180 cm W x 85–95 cm D | 2 | Apartments, studios, smaller living rooms or as a secondary seat |
| 3-Seater Sofa | 190–220 cm W x 85–95 cm D | 3 | Standard family living rooms — the most versatile configuration |
| Corner / L-Shape Lounge | 250–320 cm per side | 4–6 | Open-plan living, families and entertainers — maximises seating in corners |
| Modular Sofa | Variable — configure to suit | 4–10+ | Flexible living rooms; can be reconfigured as your household changes |
| Recliner Suite | 220–300 cm W x 100–130 cm D (reclined) | 2–5 | Maximum comfort for TV and home cinema; note extra depth when reclined |
| Sofa Bed | 190–220 cm W x 90–100 cm D (seated) | 2–3 | Apartments and spare rooms — converts to a guest bed when needed |

Lounge Materials — What Works Best in Brisbane & Gold Coast Homes?
| Material | Best For | Brisbane & QLD Climate | Maintenance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fabric | Families with kids and pets; everyday comfort | Excellent — breathable and comfortable year-round | Vacuum regularly; spot clean or remove covers for washing |
| Microfibre | High-traffic households; maximum durability | Excellent — stain-resistant and comfortable in the heat | Machine-washable removable covers; easy wipe-down |
| PU Leather | Modern aesthetic; easy-clean homes | Good — can feel warm in Brisbane summers; use lighter colours | Wipe with damp cloth; condition every 6 months |
| Air Leather | Leather look with better breathability | Very good — more breathable than standard PU; well-suited to QLD | Wipe clean; avoid harsh solvents or abrasive cloths |
| Suede Fabric | Premium look on a budget; styling-forward buyers | Good — best in air-conditioned rooms; avoid high humidity areas | Suede brush regularly; avoid water saturation |
Our recommendation for most Brisbane and Gold Coast homes: Breathable fabric or air leather. Both handle subtropical humidity and warmth comfortably — fabric for families and pet owners, air leather for easy-clean households. See our fabric furniture care guide to keep it looking its best. Browse our affordable range for budget-friendly options across all materials.

Frequently Asked Questions — Sofas & Lounges Brisbane & Gold Coast
Can I see sofas and lounges in person before buying?
Yes. Our five showrooms are in Rocklea, Virginia, Beenleigh, North Ipswich and Bundall (Gold Coast); ask which one has the model you like on display. All five showrooms are open seven days. Our team is available to help you compare sizes, configurations and materials — no pressure, no commissions.
What lounge configuration is best for a Brisbane open-plan living room?
A corner or L-shaped lounge is the most popular choice for open-plan living rooms in Brisbane — it defines the lounge zone within a larger space, maximises seating and provides a natural focal point. Modular sofas offer even more flexibility if your layout is likely to change. Both types are available with or without storage and sofa bed options. Visit one of our five showrooms or see our configuration guide above for recommended footprint sizes.
What is the best lounge material for Brisbane and Gold Coast homes?
For Brisbane's subtropical climate, breathable fabric and air leather are the most comfortable everyday choices. Fabric is ideal for families with children and pets — breathable, comfortable and most covers are machine washable. PU leather wipes clean easily but can feel warm in summer. Air leather offers the look of leather with better breathability — well-suited to QLD's heat and humidity. Our team can help you feel the difference across our showroom display range.
Do sofas and lounges at A2Z come with a warranty?
All lounges carry a minimum 12-month manufacturer's warranty covering structural defects including frame breakage, foam failure, fabric seam splitting and mechanism faults. Specific terms vary by model and are detailed on each product page. Contact info@thea2zfurniture.com or visit one of our five showrooms for warranty questions.
Do you deliver sofas and lounges to the Gold Coast and regional areas?
Yes. We deliver across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and surrounding areas. Delivery fees are calculated at checkout by postcode and item size. Free warehouse pickup is also available from our Rocklea distribution warehouse, 7 days a week. Full Delivery T&Cs here.
What payment options are available on sofas and lounges?
We offer Afterpay, Zip, Klarna, Latitude Interest Free and PayPal Pay in 4 — all interest-free options to spread the cost. Layby is also available with a 25% deposit and up to 90 days to pay. All major credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted in store and online.
Can I pick up a lounge instead of paying for delivery?
Yes. Our Rocklea Distribution Warehouse at 48 Randolph St, Rocklea QLD 4106 offers free pickup 7 days a week — Mon–Fri 9:30 AM–4:30 PM, Sat 9:30 AM–3:30 PM, Sun & Public Holidays 10:30 AM–3:30 PM. Bring a ute, trailer or van suitable for the size of your lounge carton. Call 07 3161 5415 to arrange.
How do I measure my living room for a new lounge?
Measure the total available floor area and mark out any fixed obstacles (doorways, columns, windows, TV wall). Allow at least 45 cm walkway clearance on each side of the lounge and 40–50 cm between the sofa and your coffee table for comfortable leg room. Lay masking tape on the floor to mark the lounge footprint before you buy — it's the most reliable way to check the fit. Our team can help with measurements in store.
How long is a 3 seater couch?
A 3-seater sofa is typically 190–220 cm wide and 85–95 cm deep. That is the most versatile size for a standard family living room. Allow at least 45 cm of walkway clearance on each side and 40–50 cm between the sofa and the coffee table. See the configuration table above for 2-seater, corner, modular and recliner footprints — recliners need extra depth when reclined.
What should I look for in a corner sofa?
Start with the orientation: decide which side the chaise or corner sits on before anything else, because it is fixed on most models and a modular is the flexible alternative. Then check the footprint against your room — a corner lounge runs roughly 250–320 cm per side, so measure both walls, not just the longer one. Finally check access: measure doorways, stairwells and lift openings, as many lounges are delivered flat-packed for exactly this reason. Our showroom team can walk through your measurements with you.
Where can I buy a sofa bed in Brisbane?
Our five South-East Queensland showrooms are in Rocklea, Virginia, Beenleigh, North Ipswich and Bundall (Gold Coast), all open seven days; ask which one has the sofa bed you like on display.
