Faux Leather Sofas, Couches & Lounges

Faux leather sofas: the leather look, for less

A faux leather lounge gives you the sleek, structured look of leather without the premium price — and it's one of the most practical choices going for busy Australian homes. The surface wipes clean in seconds, holds its colour without fading, and contains no animal product, so it's a genuinely vegan-friendly option too. At A2Z Furniture our faux leather couches span two, three and four-seater designs in a range of finishes, all built to take everyday family life in their stride.

Faux leather is part of our wider leather sofa range — if you'd like to compare it against genuine leather, start there. Prefer a particular size? Browse two-seaters, three-seaters, or corner and chaise lounges.

What is faux leather?

Faux leather is a man-made upholstery designed to look and feel like real leather. It starts with a fabric base — usually polyester — that's coated with a flexible polymer and finished with a leather-style grain. The result is a smooth, supple surface that's hard to tell from the real thing at a glance, at a much friendlier price.

PU leather, vegan leather, leather-look — what's the difference?

They're largely different names for the same thing. PU leather refers to the polyurethane coating used to make the surface — it's the most common and best-regarded faux finish. Vegan leather simply highlights that it's animal-free. Leather-look is the everyday description of the style. Our faux leather lounges are PU-based, which is the synthetic that comes closest to the look and feel of genuine leather.

Is faux leather durable? Does it crack?

Cracking is the question most people ask — and it usually comes from memories of old vinyl furniture. Modern PU faux leather is a different material: it's far more flexible, resists fading, and holds up well to daily use when looked after. As with any upholstery, a little care goes a long way — keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heaters, wipe up spills promptly, and a faux leather lounge will keep its finish for years.

What sizes and shapes does it come in?

The full spread. Faux leather works across a two-seater for apartments and second-sofa setups, a three-seater as the main living-room lounge, a four-seater or corner lounge for larger spaces, and even sofa beds for overnight guests.

Faux leather or genuine leather — which suits you?

Caring for your faux leather lounge

One of the biggest draws of faux leather is how little upkeep it needs — no conditioning, no special treatments. To keep it looking its best:

• Wipe regularly — a soft, damp cloth removes everyday marks and dust; dry with a clean cloth afterwards.
• Deal with spills promptly — faux leather doesn't absorb liquid the way fabric does, so most spills lift with a quick wipe.
• Keep it out of harsh sun and direct heat — like any upholstery, prolonged direct sunlight and heaters can age the surface over time.
• Mind sharp objects and claws — keeping these clear of the surface protects the finish.
• Match products to the material — use a cleaner suited to PU/faux leather rather than a genuine-leather conditioner, which isn't designed for synthetic finishes.

Each product page lists the exact material, so you can follow the right routine from day one.

Frequently asked questions

• What is faux leather, and is it the same as PU or vegan leather?

Faux leather is a man-made upholstery made to look and feel like real leather — usually a polyester base coated with a polymer and finished with a leather-style grain. "PU leather" refers to the polyurethane coating, "vegan leather" highlights that it's animal-free, and "leather-look" is the everyday term. They're largely the same thing. Our faux leather lounges are PU-based, the synthetic that comes closest to genuine leather.

• Is faux leather durable? Does it crack or peel?

The cracking worry usually comes from old vinyl furniture — modern PU faux leather is a different, more flexible material that resists fading and holds up well to daily use. Like any upholstery it lasts longest when cared for: keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heaters, and wipe up spills promptly. Looked after, a faux leather lounge keeps its finish for years.

• Is faux leather a good choice for kids and pets?

Yes — it's one of the most practical options for a busy household. Faux leather wipes clean with a damp cloth, doesn't absorb spills the way fabric does, and resists everyday marks, so it's easy to keep looking fresh. Keeping sharp objects and pet claws clear of the surface helps it last even longer.

• Faux leather or genuine leather — which should I choose?

Choose faux/PU leather if you want the leather look at a lower price, an easy wipe-clean surface for kids and pets, a consistent colour, and a vegan, animal-free option with no conditioning required. Consider genuine leather if you want a natural material that ages with character and breathes, and you're happy to condition it occasionally at a higher price point. You can compare both across our full leather sofa range.

• How do I clean a faux leather sofa?

A soft, damp cloth handles everyday cleaning — wipe the surface and dry it with a clean cloth afterwards. Deal with spills promptly (they usually lift with a quick wipe), keep the lounge out of harsh sun and direct heat, and use a cleaner suited to PU/faux leather rather than a genuine-leather conditioner. No special conditioning is required.

• What sizes and shapes do faux leather lounges come in?

The full range — two, three and four-seaters, corner and chaise lounges, and sofa beds for overnight guests. A two-seater suits apartments and second-sofa setups, a three-seater anchors most living rooms, and corner pieces work well in larger, open-plan spaces.
