Manual Recliner Sofas & Lounges

Manual recliner sofas, lounges and chairs — built for everyday reliability

A manual recliner sofa is the original recliner — no motors, no remote, no power point. Pull a lever, lean back, push the backrest forward to close. Simple, mechanical, and built to last decades of daily use. Across our manual recliner range we stock single recliner chairs, 2-seater recliner sofas and loveseats, and 3-seater recliner lounges, in leather, suede, air leather, and stain-resistant fabric.

Manual recliners suit Brisbane and Gold Coast buyers who value simplicity, longevity, and placement freedom over button-control convenience. They're also typically more affordable than the equivalent electric recliner model — meaning you can often size up a configuration (3-seater instead of 2-seater) for the same budget.

Why choose a manual recliner over electric

Manual and electric recliners deliver the same core comfort. The trade-offs are practical, not about which is "better":

• No power point needed — place the lounge anywhere in the room. Open-plan living rooms, second living zones, lounges that need to sit in the middle of a space rather than against a wall, and rooms without conveniently positioned outlets all work without compromise.
• Simpler mechanism, fewer moving parts — no motor, no electronics, no remote to lose. Less to potentially fail or need servicing over the long term.
• More affordable per configuration — manual recliners typically cost less than equivalent electric models. The savings can be put toward a larger configuration or premium upholstery.
• Quieter operation — no motor hum, no whirring during recline. Useful in TV rooms, bedrooms, and nursery spaces where a quiet recline matters.
• Long-term reliability — mechanical lever mechanisms have a long track record of lasting 15–20+ years with normal use. Electric motors can be replaced if they fail, but manual mechanisms rarely need attention at all.
• No trip hazards — no power cables running across the floor, no extension cords stretched to reach the lounge.
• Faster engagement once familiar — pull the lever, lean back, done. No waiting for a motor to cycle.

How our manual recliner mechanism works

A2Z manual recliners use a lever-pull mechanism. The lever is positioned on the outside of the armrest, within easy reach when you're seated. To recline:

• To open — pull the lever and lean back. The footrest extends forward and the backrest tilts in one smooth motion. The whole action takes a second or two and requires very little force.
• To close — push back firmly against the backrest. The mechanism resets and the footrest folds away — no need to pull the lever again. A push of the legs helps if the recline was deep.

The lever stays accessible whether you're upright, partially reclined, or fully back. Most users find the motion intuitive within the first sit. If you want to test the feel before buying, our showroom team can walk you through the mechanism on any of our manual models.

Manual recliners are best chosen in person. The lever action, the resistance of the recline, the firmness of the seat — all of these come through in five minutes of sitting and almost not at all in product photos. Ask which of our five South-East Queensland showrooms has the manual model you like on display:

• Rocklea — Brisbane south-west
• North Ipswich — Ipswich
• Virginia — Brisbane north
• Bundall — Gold Coast
• Beenleigh — Logan / between Brisbane and Gold Coast

We offer Free Local Delivery on eligible items within 10 km of our Rocklea warehouse when you pay outright (not pay later), ground floor only, with affordable delivery available to the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Ipswich, Logan and wider regional Queensland.

Frequently asked questions

• How does a manual recliner work?

A2Z manual recliners use a lever-pull mechanism positioned on the outside of the armrest. To recline, pull the lever and lean back — the footrest extends forward and the backrest tilts in one smooth motion. To close, push firmly back against the backrest and the mechanism resets without needing the lever. The whole action takes a couple of seconds and requires very little force, with no power point or remote needed.

• Why choose a manual recliner over an electric one?

Manual recliners win on simplicity, placement freedom, price, and long-term reliability. They don't need a power point, so the lounge can sit anywhere in the room. They have no motor, electronics, or remote — fewer parts to potentially fail. They're typically more affordable than the equivalent electric model. And the mechanical lever mechanism has a long track record of lasting 15–20+ years with normal use. Electric recliners win on convenience and feature options (USB charging, cooling cupholders, dual-motor headrest), so the right choice comes down to which trade-offs matter more to you.

• Are manual recliners harder to use than electric ones?

Not really, for most users. The lever-pull motion takes very little force and most people find it intuitive within the first sit. Electric models give you push-button precision (and finer-grained position control), so they can be the better pick if you have grip-strength or shoulder concerns, or if you want to find an exact halfway position rather than the standard recline angles. For everyday use, both deliver the same core comfort — the difference is method, not difficulty.

• Do you stock manual recliners in single, 2-seater, and 3-seater configurations?

Yes — manual mechanism is available across every recliner configuration we stock. Single recliner chairs, 2-seater recliner lounges (including loveseat-with-console variants), 3-seater recliner lounges, leather variants, and matched recliner packages (3+2+1 and 3+1+1 sets) are all available with manual recline. The Sunshine range is a good example of a complete matched manual suite — 2-seater plus 3-seater plus matching recliner chair, all in air leather.

• How long do manual recliners last compared to electric?

Both can last well over a decade with normal use. The difference is in failure points: manual recliner mechanisms have very few moving parts (essentially just the lever and the spring-loaded recline frame), so once they're working, they tend to keep working. Electric mechanisms include motors that, while reliable, can wear out over very long periods. The good news is electric motors are generally replaceable on better-quality models, but manual mechanisms rarely need attention at all. Frame quality, upholstery care, and how heavily the lounge is used all affect lifespan more than mechanism type does.

• Can I get a manual recliner in leather?

Yes — leather is available across our manual recliner range, in genuine leather, air leather and PU options. The Sunshine range is upholstered in air leather (a bonded leather composite that performs well in Queensland's climate). Each product page states which leather that model uses. Browse our leather recliners collection for the full leather-grade comparison — the same leather grade information applies to manual variants.
