Why upholstered dining chairs are such a smart choice
Upholstered dining chairs bring softness, comfort and visual warmth to a dining room in a way that timber-only seating often cannot. They help a dining space feel more finished, more welcoming and better suited to everyday meals as well as longer dinners with family and guests.
If you are comparing options, start with how the chair feels to sit in, how the upholstery will wear in your household, and how the shape works with your table. You can also browse our wider dining chairs collection if you want to compare upholstered styles with timber, metal or mixed-material designs.
Start with comfort and proportion
For a comfortable fit, your chair should slide neatly under the table while still giving enough legroom. As a practical rule, allow around 25 to 30cm between the seat and the underside of the tabletop. Upholstered seats also tend to make everyday dining feel more relaxed, especially if you like to linger at the table.
Choose the upholstery for the way you live
Soft woven fabric creates a warmer, more textured look and suits relaxed, contemporary dining rooms. PU leather can be a practical choice for busy homes because it is easier to wipe down after everyday use. If you want a softer look with extra texture, browse our fabric dining chairs.
Think about the frame and finish
Black legs and slimmer silhouettes tend to feel more modern, while timber legs bring in warmth and a more natural finish. If you prefer a simpler, less padded look, our wooden dining chairs are also worth exploring.
How to choose the right upholstered dining chair for your home
For everyday family dining
Look for supportive padding, easy-care finishes and a shape that is easy to move around the table. Darker tones, textured neutrals and practical upholstery choices usually work well in high-use spaces.
For a more elevated dining room
Tufting, stitched backs, sculpted silhouettes and metallic or black accents can create a more dressed-up look. If your room leans modern, our black dining chairs can pair beautifully with upholstered textures and darker table finishes.
For smaller spaces
Choose slimmer chair profiles, lighter upholstery colours and tables with clean lines so the room still feels open. You can pair upholstered chairs with compact 4 seater dining tables or move up to 6 seater dining tables and 8 seater dining tables as your space allows.
For Queensland homes
In Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, many customers want a balance of style and practicality. Upholstered dining chairs with easy-care finishes, sturdy timber or metal frames, and breathable, comfortable seating tend to be a strong fit for modern Queensland living.
Pair your upholstered dining chairs with the right table
The best result usually comes from balancing softness with structure. Upholstered dining chairs look especially good with natural timber, glass or marble-effect tables depending on the mood you want to create. If you want a warmer, relaxed look, explore our wooden dining tables. For something lighter and more open, browse our glass dining tables. For a more formal statement, see our marble-look dining tables.
If you would rather buy a coordinated setup, our dining table sets are a simple way to create a balanced dining room with less guesswork.

Frequently asked questions
Are upholstered dining chairs suitable for everyday use?
Yes. A well-made upholstered dining chair is an excellent everyday option, especially if comfort matters to you. Padded seats and supportive backs make daily meals, working from the table and longer gatherings feel more comfortable.
What is the easiest upholstery to maintain?
That depends on your household. Fabric offers softness and texture, while PU leather can be easier to wipe down after spills. For ongoing upkeep, see our product care page before choosing your finish.
How many upholstered dining chairs will fit around my table?
It depends on both table length and chair width. As a guide, many homes pair upholstered chairs with 4 seater, 6 seater and 8 seater dining tables. Always allow enough room between chairs for comfortable movement and dining.
Can I see your upholstered dining chairs in person before buying?
Not every chair is on display at every showroom, so ask which of our showrooms across South-East Queensland has the one you like before you visit. Our team can then help you compare seat comfort, back height, upholstery colour and overall scale.
Do you offer delivery, finance and warranty support?
Yes. We offer local delivery options, flexible finance and warranty support. For details, see free local delivery terms, Afterpay and our warranty and returns page.
