Choosing a Thin Mattress
A thin mattress is bought for a frame or a setup, so choosing well comes down to two things: which of our two builds suits the use, and — critically for some setups — getting the depth right. Here's the honest version of both.
The two builds we stock
- Slim spring (around 19 cm): a genuine supportive spring mattress in a lower profile than a deep or pillow-top bed. It sleeps like a normal mattress — it's just leaner. Suited to platform beds, lower bedframes, guest rooms, daybeds and everyday use where a slimmer height is wanted.
- All-foam, no springs: a foam-only mattress with no innerspring, which runs slimmer again. The lighter, lower-profile option — easiest to handle and move, and the better choice for the tightest depth constraints and occasional use.
So "thin" here is about profile, not a single recipe. The spring versions are a real everyday mattress that simply sits lower; the foam versions trade some depth for the slimmest fit and easy handling. Which is right depends entirely on the bed it's going on.
What each suits
- Platform & lower bedframes: the slim spring mattress gives a clean, low look without giving up real mattress support — a genuine everyday option.
- Trundles & daybeds: a lower profile lets a trundle roll back under the main bed and keeps a daybed reading as seating. Match the build to the clearance you have.
- Guest & occasional beds: either build works; the foam option is the lighter, easiest to store and move.
- Sofa beds: only where the sofa bed specifies a slim replacement mattress — fold-away mechanisms are strict on size and thickness, so match their stated spec exactly.
Getting the size and depth right
Thin mattresses run through the smaller sizes these frames use — single, king single and double are the common ones, from $99 for a single. Length and width follow the standard Australian sizes (see the bed size guide), but the measurement people overlook is depth: trundle clearances, sofa-bed mechanisms and especially bunk guard rails all have a maximum thickness. Decide the depth your frame allows first, then choose spring or foam to suit it.
Why buy your thin mattress from A2Z
The A2Z Furniture is a family-run Australian business established in 2013. A thin mattress is one where seeing the actual profile and feel in person genuinely helps — a 19 cm spring and a slim foam are very different things to lie on — so you can check both across five South-East Queensland showrooms: Rocklea, Sandgate, Bundall, North Ipswich and Beenleigh. Buying from our own Brisbane warehouse rather than a reseller keeps the price clear of a retail margin, which matters on a practical, value-led purchase like this. Stock is held with pick-up seven days a week, plus Free Local Delivery on eligible orders from Rocklea. Every mattress carries a manufacturer's warranty (from 12 months) — see our warranty policy — and you can spread the cost interest-free with Afterpay, Zip, Humm and Latitude. Verified customer reviews are shown on each product to help you compare. Prefer to talk it through? Call our team on 1300 781 990.
Thin Mattress FAQs
What is a thin mattress?
A lower-profile mattress for frames and setups where a deep mattress doesn't suit. We stock two builds: a slim spring mattress at around 19 cm that sleeps like a normal supportive mattress, and an all-foam (no-spring) option that runs slimmer again for the tightest depth constraints.
Do your thin mattresses have springs?
Some do, some don't. We stock both a slim spring mattress (around 19 cm) and an all-foam option with no innerspring. The foam one is the slimmer and lighter of the two; the spring one is the fuller, more supportive everyday feel.
Is a thin mattress safe for a bunk bed?
Only if its depth is within your bunk's limit. The all-foam option is the slim one; the spring mattress at around 19 cm is too thick for many upper bunks. Bunk safety needs the guard rail to rise well above the sleeping surface, so check the bunk manufacturer's maximum mattress depth and your rail height before buying — and call us on 1300 781 990 with the details if you're unsure rather than guessing.
Can a thin mattress be a normal everyday bed?
The slim spring option, yes — it's a genuine supportive mattress that simply sits lower, well suited to platform and low bedframes. The all-foam option is better kept to guest, occasional, trundle and depth-restricted use rather than a heavy-build primary bed. If depth isn't a constraint for your bed, a full-depth construction gives more long-term cushioning.
How much does a thin mattress cost at A2Z?
From around $99 for a single, rising with size and build. The product grid above shows current pricing. Interest-free payment is available through Afterpay, Zip, Humm and Latitude.
What sizes do thin mattresses come in?
The smaller sizes these frames typically use — single, king single and double are the common ones. Check your frame's required size and, just as importantly, its maximum mattress depth.
Do you deliver thin mattresses, or can I pick one up?
Both. Stock is held in our Brisbane (Rocklea) warehouse with pick-up seven days a week, and Free Local Delivery is available on eligible orders from Rocklea — see our delivery details. The foam option in particular is one of the easier mattresses to transport yourself.
