Overview

A glamorous dining chair with a statement gold base

The Dominic Chair is a modern dining chair built around a golden chromed cantilever base — a single sweeping metal frame in place of four legs — topped with a black PU leather seat and high back. The glossy gold finish is designed to catch the light and contrast against the black upholstery, making it a standout piece rather than a background chair. At $149 each it's sold per chair, so you can order exactly the number your table needs — and if you'd rather not build them yourself, add assembly for $20 a chair and we'll do it on delivery.

High Back, Padded Seat

Both the seat and the tall backrest are cushioned over an MDF frame, giving proper back support through a long dinner rather than the shallow perch some designer chairs offer.

Golden Chromed Cantilever Base

A single sculptural gold-finish metal frame replaces the usual four legs — a genuine style statement, and a stable footing that doesn't wobble on hard flooring.

Black PU Leather

Smooth black PU (faux leather) upholstery wipes clean with a damp cloth and gives the leather look without the leather price.

Armless — Tucks Right In

No arms means the whole chair slides under the table edge between meals, keeping the cantilever base's sweep as the visual focus rather than clashing with the table apron.

Will it fit?

Will it fit your table — and how many do you need?

A dining chair is bought blind more often than any other seat, and most stores don't even publish the numbers you actually need. We don't have a separate seat-height figure from our supplier for the Dominic — only the overall 96 cm height — so here's the honest version: the general Australian sizing rules, and what we can say from the chair's design.

Dining sizing guide: allow 60 cm of table edge per person, leave at least 90 cm of clear floor on every side, pair a 71 to 78 cm high table with chairs of 45 to 48 cm seat height for 25 to 30 cm of knee room, and a table-length-to-seats ready reckoner from 120 cm seating four up to 270 cm seating ten.
96 cmOverall height — the figure our supplier spec gives us. We don't have a separate seat-height number for this chair.
42 cmChair width — close to the 45 cm most Australian dining chairs use to fit the standard 60 cm of table edge per diner.
43 cmChair depth — allow roughly 90 cm of clear floor behind the table edge when it's pulled out.
  • Seat height isn't on our spec sheet for this chair. We won't guess a number we can't stand behind. Standard Australian dining tables sit 71–76 cm high and want 25–30 cm of knee room under them — call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 or visit in person to check the Dominic against your table before you order.
  • Count roughly 60 cm of table edge per chair. At 42 cm wide the Dominic is close to the standard spacing: a 110–120 cm table takes four, a 150 cm table takes four to six, and a 180–200 cm table seats six, or eight with the ends in use. Buying for a six-seater? You need six chairs — set the quantity above.
  • No arms to catch the apron. Armchairs often can't tuck under the table's edge rail. The Dominic is armless, so it slides fully under the table between meals.
  • Depth check for tight rooms. The chair is 43 cm deep, so pulled out for seating it needs roughly 90 cm of clear floor behind the table edge — the same clearance rule as the table itself.

Not sure? Call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 — we'll check the fit against your table before you order, and you can try the Dominic in person in our showrooms.

Styling

What it pairs with

The Dominic's black-and-gold palette is built for a glamorous dining setting. It's a natural match for the Delta Dining Table in Black & Gold, where the gold rods on the table base echo the chair's cantilever frame for a coordinated statement look. It also works on a simpler timber table like the Dell or Dalby, where the gold base and black leather add a contrasting glam accent rather than matching finish for finish. Keep the rest of the room's metals to gold or brass to avoid clashing with the chrome.

PU is a faux leather: it gives the leather look at a fraction of the price and wipes clean easily, but it doesn't wear like genuine hide — keep it out of harsh sun and away from sharp edges and it will look right for years. The gold chromed finish is a plated surface, not solid gold or brass — treat it the way you'd treat any polished chrome fitting. Swatch colours and finishes on screen are approximate; we recommend seeing the Dominic in a showroom before you buy.

Caring for your chairs

🧽

Wipe the PU after meals

A damp cloth is all the black PU leather needs — spills, sauce and little fingerprints wipe straight off. Skip harsh solvents and abrasive scourers, which dull and crack PU over time.

🪞

Polish the gold base gently

Wipe the chromed base with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For fingerprints, use a barely-damp cloth and dry immediately — avoid abrasive cleaners that can scratch the plated finish.

🔩

Check the fixings twice a year

Every dining chair loosens a little with daily use. A twice-yearly once-over with the supplied hardware keeps the seat and base tight and silent.

☀️

Keep out of direct sun

Strong direct sunlight dries out PU over time. Position the chairs away from harsh sun, or close curtains during the brightest hours.

What's in the box

Assembly required — screwdriver, drill recommended

Each Dominic chair arrives with the upholstered seat and back made up; you attach the cantilever base with the included hardware. A screwdriver does the job, and an electric drill is recommended to make it quicker. Count on a few minutes per chair — or add assembly above ($20 per chair) and our team will build every chair on delivery.

Delivery & pickup

Two ways to get them home

Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. Chairs travel in compact cartons, so stairs and doorways are rarely a problem; add assembly above if you'd like them built on delivery.

Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. Chair cartons are compact — a set of four typically fits in a hatchback, six in a wagon or SUV. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.

Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.
