Overview
A quiet, upright dining chair in grey fabric and dark timber
The Dalby Dining Chair is an armless, fully upholstered dining chair: a padded seat and a tall padded backrest in soft grey woven fabric, carried on a timber frame in a warm, dark walnut-toned finish. The top rail is capped in timber with a cut-out handle, so the chair is easy to lift and slide back from the table — a small detail that matters more than it sounds when six chairs get moved twice a day. It's sold per chair at $119, so you order exactly the number your table needs and can add or replace one later without buying a whole set.
Padded Seat and Full-Height Back
Both the seat and the backrest are upholstered, and the back runs the full height of the chair rather than stopping at a narrow splat. That's the difference between a chair you sit in for a quick weeknight meal and one you can stay in through a long Sunday lunch.
Cut-Out Handle in the Back Rail
The timber top rail has an open grip cut through it. You lift the chair by the handle instead of dragging it, which is kinder to timber floorboards and to the chair's own joints.
Dark Timber Frame
The legs and frame are timber in a deep walnut-toned finish, with squared, gently tapered legs. It's a finish that reads as warm rather than glossy, and it sits comfortably beside darker dining tables and timber flooring.
Armless — Tucks Right In
No arms means nothing to clash with the table's edge rail, so the chair slides in fully between meals. In a tight dining room that's the difference between a clear walkway and a squeeze.
Will it fit?
Will it fit your table — and how many do you need?
Dining chairs get bought blind more often than any other seat, because almost nobody publishes the numbers that decide the fit. Two checks settle it: whether the seat height suits your table, and how many chairs your table can actually take. Here are the Australian rules of thumb — and, honestly, where we stand on the Dalby's own measurements.
- Measure your table height first. Floor to tabletop. Australian dining tables almost all land between 71 and 76 cm, and the comfortable pairing is a chair with a seat height of roughly 43–48 cm, which leaves the recommended 25–30 cm of knee room. Anything much lower feels like you're reaching up to eat; much higher and your knees meet the apron.
- Count 60 cm of table edge per chair. As a rough guide that's four chairs around a 110–150 cm table, four to six around a 150 cm table, and six around a 180–200 cm table — eight if you seat the ends. Buying for a six-seater? You need six chairs; set the quantity above.
- No arms to catch the apron. Armchairs often can't tuck under a table's edge rail. The Dalby is armless, so the whole chair slides under the table between meals — worth knowing where every centimetre of walkway counts.
- Leave about 90 cm of clear floor behind each chair. That's the standard pull-out-and-sit-down clearance, measured from the table edge to the nearest wall or sideboard. It applies to any dining chair, this one included.
About the Dalby's own measurements: this chair's exact seat height, width and depth aren't yet on our supplier spec sheet, and we won't publish numbers we can't stand behind. Call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor piece against your table before you order — or come and sit in one at any of our showrooms.

Styling
What it pairs with
The obvious partner is its own range: the Dalby Dining Table, which shares the same dark timber finish, so the frames match rather than merely coordinate. Beyond the range, the grey fabric is deliberately neutral — it sits happily against walnut, oak and acacia tables, and the dark frame keeps it from disappearing into a pale room. If you're mixing, the usual trick is to keep the palette to two: one tone for the table, one for the chairs. Round out the room with a sideboard or buffet in a similar timber tone, and browse the rest of the dining chair range if you'd like to compare finishes side by side.

We describe the upholstery as grey woven fabric because that's what our supplier information and the product photography support — we don't have a stated fibre content, so we won't name one, and we make no stain-resistance claim. Colours on screen are approximate; we recommend seeing the finish in a showroom before you buy.
Caring for your chairs
Vacuum the fabric weekly
Run the upholstery brush attachment over the seat and back once a week. It lifts the grit that would otherwise work into the weave and wear it thin at the front edge of the seat.
Blot spills, don't rub
Deal with spills straight away using a clean dry cloth, pressing rather than scrubbing. Rubbing pushes the spill deeper into the weave instead of lifting it out.
Wipe the timber dry
The frame and back rail take a soft, barely damp cloth followed by a dry one. Skip the spray polishes and solvents — they build up on a stained finish and dull it over time.
Keep out of direct sun
Strong direct sunlight fades fabric and lightens a dark timber finish unevenly. Position the chairs away from harsh afternoon sun, or draw the curtains through the brightest hours.
What's in the box
One chair per order — assembly not yet confirmed
Each order is for a single Dalby Dining Chair. We'd rather be straight with you here: whether this chair ships fully assembled or with the legs to attach isn't confirmed on our supplier spec sheet, so we're not going to state it either way — and for the same reason we're not offering paid assembly on this chair. Call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 before you order and we'll check a floor piece and tell you exactly what to expect.

FAQ
Common questions
We don't have it yet — the Dalby's seat height isn't on our supplier spec sheet, and we won't publish a number we can't stand behind. Call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor piece against your table height while you're on the phone. As a general rule, a chair seat of about 43–48 cm suits the 71–76 cm tables most Australian homes have.
One chair. Set the quantity to match your table — as a guide, four around a 110–150 cm table and six around a 150–200 cm table. Buying singles also means you can add or replace a chair later without buying a whole new set.
It's a soft grey woven fabric across the seat and the full-height backrest. We don't have a stated fibre content from our supplier, so we describe it simply as fabric rather than naming a fibre — and we make no stain-resistance claim. If the exact material matters to you, come and feel it in a showroom, or call us on 07 3161 5415.
Assembly requirements aren't confirmed on our supplier spec sheet for this chair, so we won't claim it arrives either assembled or flat-packed. That's also why we don't offer our paid assembly service on it. Call 07 3161 5415 before you order and we'll check a floor piece and tell you exactly what's involved.
Vacuum the fabric weekly with the upholstery brush attachment, and blot spills immediately with a clean dry cloth rather than rubbing. Wipe the timber frame and back rail with a barely damp cloth and dry it off — no spray polishes or solvents. Keep the chairs out of strong direct sunlight, which fades fabric and lightens a dark finish unevenly.
The Dalby Dining Table ($299) is its range partner and shares the same dark timber finish, so the frames genuinely match. Beyond the range, the grey fabric is neutral enough to sit with most walnut, oak and acacia tables at a standard 71–76 cm height.
A rated weight capacity isn't on our supplier spec sheet, so we won't quote one. It's an upholstered dining chair on a timber frame, built for everyday family dining. If load capacity is a deciding factor for your order, call us on 07 3161 5415 and we'll help before you buy.
Full details
Dalby Dining Chair — full product details
The Dalby Dining Chair is an armless upholstered dining chair in soft grey woven fabric on a timber frame finished in a warm, dark walnut tone. Both the seat and the full-height backrest are padded, and the timber top rail carries a cut-out handle so the chair can be lifted rather than dragged. It is sold per chair at $119, which means you buy exactly the number your table seats — and can add or replace one later without replacing the set.
Its clean, upright silhouette suits contemporary and modern-farmhouse dining rooms alike, and the neutral grey upholstery works against walnut, oak and acacia tables. Being armless, it tucks fully under a table between meals, which keeps walkways clear in narrower Brisbane dining rooms. The natural pairing is the matching Dalby Dining Table, which shares the same dark timber finish.
