Overview
The warm-toned chair in the Darkwood range
The Darkwood Brown Dining Chair pairs a warm brown PU faux-leather upholstered seat and a curved scoop back with a slim black powder-coated metal sled base. The padded seat and contoured backrest are shaped for sitting through a long meal, and the synthetic leather-look surface wipes clean in seconds โ which is most of the argument for a chair that lives at a family dining table. It's armless, it's sold per chair, and it's built to match the Darkwood Dining Table, so you can assemble the set at your own pace.
Warm Brown PU Upholstery
Soft-to-touch brown PU covers the seat and back in a smooth, leather-look finish. It's a synthetic upholstery, not hide โ which is exactly why it wipes down with a damp cloth instead of needing conditioning after every spill.
Black Metal Sled Base
A powder-coated black metal sled frame instead of four separate legs. The continuous runners spread the load across the floor and give the chair a clean, modern stance under a glass or timber-toned table.
Curved Scoop Back
The backrest wraps slightly around you rather than sitting flat, so your lower back is supported without the chair turning into an armchair. It's the difference between leaving the table after the main and staying for dessert.
Matches the Darkwood Table
Designed alongside the Darkwood Dining Table, whose black frame and warm reddish-brown timber-grain tone the chair picks up in both its base and its upholstery.
Will it fit?
Will it fit your table โ and how many do you need?
A dining chair is bought blind more often than any other seat, because almost nobody publishes a seat height. Two checks settle it: whether the chair's seat height suits your table, and how many chairs your table can actually take. Here are the Australian rules of thumb โ and, honestly, where this particular chair's numbers stand today.
- Measure your table height first. Floor to tabletop. Australian dining tables generally run 74โ76 cm, and the comfortable seat-height band that pairs with them is 43โ48 cm โ which leaves the recommended 25โ30 cm of knee room. If your table is taller than 78 cm, a low chair will feel like it's missing a booster; if it's under 71 cm, a tall chair leaves you perched.
- This chair's exact seat height isn't on our supplier spec yet. We're not going to publish a measurement we can't stand behind, so instead: call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor piece for you against your table height before you order. It's a two-minute call and it's the only honest way to answer the question today.
- Count 60 cm of table edge per chair. That's the spacing rule regardless of chair: a 110โ120 cm table takes four, a 150 cm table takes four to six, and a 180โ200 cm table seats six, or eight with the ends in use. Buying for a six-seater? You need six chairs โ set the quantity above.
- No arms to catch the apron. This chair is armless, so there's no armrest to clash with a table's edge rail or apron โ the whole chair slides in between meals. Worth knowing in a tighter dining room where walkway space matters. Allow roughly 90 cm of clear floor behind the table edge so chairs can be pulled out.
- The sled base spreads the load. A sled frame rests on two continuous runners rather than four points, which is generally kinder to timber and vinyl floors than a point-loaded leg โ but it also means the chair slides rather than lifts, so check your floor protectors.
Not sure? Measure your table height and call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 โ we'll check the fit against your table before you order, and you're welcome to sit in one in any of our showrooms.

Styling
What it pairs with
Its natural partner is the Darkwood Dining Table โ same range, same black-and-warm-brown language. Worth knowing about that table: the top is black tempered safety glass, and the Darkwood name refers to the warm reddish-brown timber-grain tone on the base and edge band, not to a timber top. That warm grain is what the chair's brown upholstery picks up, so the pair reads as one set rather than two pieces that happen to share a name. Beyond the range, the brown-on-black combination sits comfortably with walnut and acacia tabletops, black-framed glass tables, and concrete or stone tops. Keep the palette to two: one tone for the table, one for the chairs. If you want the same silhouette in a cooler finish, there's a black version of this chair in the range.

PU is chosen for dining chairs because it wipes clean in seconds โ handy when meals get messy. It holds its warm brown tone well and shrugs off everyday spills and marks without the upkeep genuine hide needs. It won't develop a leather patina, and it doesn't wear like hide; keep it out of harsh sun and away from sharp edges and it will look right for years. Colours on screen are approximate โ we recommend seeing the finish in a showroom before you buy.
Caring for your chairs
Wipe with a soft cloth
A soft, slightly damp cloth after meals is all the PU needs โ food marks and fingerprints lift straight off. Dry it off afterwards rather than leaving moisture sitting in the seams.
Condition the surface
Keep the finish supple with the Guardsman ProGuard Care Kit, which suits PU- and PU-type upholstery. Browse the full furniture care range.
Skip harsh chemicals
Avoid solvents, bleach and abrasive scourers. They strip the surface coating on PU, and once it dulls or crazes there's no bringing it back.
Keep out of direct sun
Strong direct sunlight and nearby heat sources dry and fade synthetic upholstery. Position away from the harshest window, or draw the curtains through the middle of the day.

FAQ
Common questions
It isn't on our supplier spec sheet yet, so we won't publish a number we can't stand behind. Call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor piece against your table height before you order. As a rule of thumb, Australian dining tables run 74โ76 cm and you want 25โ30 cm of knee room under them โ that's the check we'll run for you.
No โ it's brown PU, a synthetic leather-look upholstery. It gives you the look at a fraction of the price of hide and wipes clean with a damp cloth, which is why it's a common choice for dining chairs. It won't develop a leather patina and it doesn't wear like hide, and we'd rather say so up front.
One chair. Set the quantity to match your table โ four for a 110โ150 cm table, six for a 150โ200 cm table. Buying singles also means you can add or replace a chair later without repurchasing a whole set.
We don't know yet, and we won't guess. The assembly requirements for this chair aren't confirmed on our supplier spec, so call us on 07 3161 5415 before you order and we'll check a floor piece. That's also why there's no assembly add-on offered on this page.
Wipe the PU with a soft, slightly damp cloth after meals and dry it off. Avoid solvents, bleach and abrasive scourers, which damage the surface over time. The Guardsman ProGuard Care Kit suits PU- and PU-type upholstery if you want to keep the finish supple. Keep the chair out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
A rated weight capacity isn't on our supplier spec sheet, so we won't quote one. If capacity is a deciding factor for your order, call us on 07 3161 5415 and we'll help before you buy.
The Darkwood Dining Table, from the same range. Worth knowing that the table's top is black tempered safety glass โ the Darkwood name refers to the warm reddish-brown timber-grain tone on the base and edge band, which is the tone this chair's brown upholstery picks up. It also works with walnut, acacia and black-framed glass tables generally.
Full details

The seat and curved scoop back are padded for comfortable seating through longer meals, and the synthetic leather-look surface wipes clean quickly โ a practical choice for a dining table that sees daily use. The chair comes in a single warm brown PU finish paired with a matte black frame. That neutral, earthy combination sits comfortably alongside timber, glass and stone tabletops, and works in both relaxed modern kitchens and more considered dining room schemes without competing with the rest of the setting.
