Black PU Upholstery
Soft-to-touch black PU covers the seat and back in a smooth, easy-to-wipe finish. It's a synthetic leather-look upholstery โ not genuine hide โ chosen because a dining chair gets food on it and a damp cloth is all it needs.
Polished Chrome Sled Base
A slim tubular chrome sled base gives the chair a stable, continuous footing rather than four separate leg tips โ and a bright, modern profile that lifts a dark room.
Curved Scoop Back

A dining chair is bought blind more often than any other seat. Two checks settle it: whether the seat height suits your table, and how many chairs your table can actually take. Here are the Australian rules of thumb, and โ plainly โ what we do and don't yet know about this particular chair.
- Measure your table height first. Floor to tabletop. Australian dining tables run 74โ76 cm (71โ76 cm across the full range), and the comfortable band for a dining chair is a seat height of 43โ48 cm, which leaves the recommended 25โ30 cm of knee room.

- Count 60 cm of table edge per chair. That's the spacing rule regardless of the chair: a 110โ120 cm table takes four, a 150 cm table takes four to six, and a 180โ200 cm table seats six, or eight with the ends in use. Buying for a six-seater? You need six chairs โ set the quantity above.
- No arms to catch the apron. Armchairs often can't tuck under a table's edge rail. This chair is armless, so there's no armrest to clash with the apron and the whole chair slides under between meals โ worth knowing in a dining room where every centimetre of walkway counts.
- Leave about 90 cm of clear floor behind the table edge. That's the general rule for pulling a chair out and walking behind someone seated, and it applies to any dining chair.

PU is chosen for dining chairs because it wipes clean in seconds โ handy when meals get messy โ and its deep black finish doesn't show everyday marks the way a pale fabric does. It is not genuine hide and won't wear like it: keep it out of harsh sun and away from sharp edges and it will hold its finish for years. Screen colours are approximate; we recommend seeing the finish in a showroom before you buy.
Caring for your chairs
Wipe with a soft cloth
A soft, slightly damp cloth over the PU after meals is all it takes โ spills, sauce and fingerprints lift straight off before they have a chance to sit.
Condition the surface
Keep the finish supple with the Guardsman ProGuard Care Kit, which suits PU-type upholstery. A light going-over a couple of times a year is plenty.
Skip harsh chemicals
Avoid solvents, bleach and abrasive scourers. They dull and crack a PU surface over time, and the damage doesn't come back out.
Keep out of direct sun
Strong direct sunlight and nearby heat sources dry the upholstery. Position away from harsh sun, or close curtains during the brightest hours.
The chrome base takes a dry or barely damp cloth โ not a solvent cleaner. If your floors are hard, check the sled feet occasionally and add felt pads if you're dragging chairs rather than lifting them.
