How to Choose a Wooden Bedside Table
A wooden bedside table is more than a colour choice — it's the piece you reach for first thing every morning and last thing every night. The best one sits close to mattress height, gives you enough drawer space for the essentials, and echoes the timber and tone of the rest of your room. Three things settle the decision: size and storage, the timber itself, and how it ties the bedroom together.
Size & storage
A good wood bedside table sits with its top roughly level with the top of your mattress, so a lamp, phone and glass of water stay within easy reach. Compact one-drawer designs suit tight spaces; deeper two-drawer units keep everyday clutter out of sight.
Tone & finish
A light natural timber bedside table feels relaxed and airy; a darker smoked finish — like the Whyalla — adds warmth and contrast. Match the tone to your bed frame and dresser so the room reads as one considered space rather than separate pieces.
Pairs & sets
Bedside tables look most polished in a pair, one each side of the bed, or coordinated with matching tallboys and drawers. A consistent timber across the room is the easiest way to a pulled-together look.
Choose Your Timber
"Wooden" covers several very different materials, and the right one depends on the look you want, your budget, and — in a humid Queensland climate — how the timber handles moisture. Here's what the tables on this page are made from, going by each product's own description:
Not sure which suits your room? Our team can walk you through the options in person — the difference between timbers and finishes is much easier to judge by hand.
Match Your Bedroom
A wooden bedside table works hardest when it's part of a set. Echo its timber across the room with a matching wooden bed frame, a dresser with mirror, or coordinating tallboys and chests of drawers. Keeping the timber tone consistent — light with light, smoked with smoked — is the simplest route to a bedroom that feels designed rather than assembled. Why Buy Your Wooden Bedside Table at A2Z
Timber is best judged in person: the weight, the grain, the depth of a smoked finish. You can see our bedside tables at one of our five South-East Queensland showrooms (Rocklea, Ipswich, Bundall, Virginia and Beenleigh), open seven days. Not every table is on every showroom floor, so check which store has the one you want before you visit. Wooden Bedside Tables — FAQs
What timber are your bedside tables made from?
Our wooden bedside tables come in acacia, eucalyptus, messmate, rubberwood, oak and pine, plus engineered wood and painted or dual-tone finishes. Each product page lists the exact material.
What's the difference between solid wood and engineered wood?
Solid timber is natural wood throughout, prized for its grain and feel. Engineered wood is a manufactured board with a timber finish; it's more stable in humidity and usually more affordable. Each product page says which one a table is.
Which timber is best for a humid Queensland bedroom?
Engineered wood resists the slight warping and movement that humidity can cause in solid timber, so it's a practical choice in coastal and subtropical homes. Whatever the timber, keeping it out of direct damp and wiping up spills promptly keeps it at its best.
How tall should a bedside table be?
Ideally the top sits roughly level with the top of your mattress, so a lamp, phone and glass are within easy reach without leaning. Heights vary by bed and mattress, so check the table's dimensions against your made-up bed before choosing.
Do you sell bedside tables in pairs?
Many of our wooden designs can be bought as singles or pairs — a matched pair either side of the bed is the most balanced look. Add a matching tallboy or dresser in the same timber to coordinate the whole room.
Can I see wooden bedside tables in person?
Yes, at one of our five SEQ showrooms: Rocklea, North Ipswich, Beenleigh, Virginia and Bundall, open seven days. Not every showroom has every table, so check the product page or call before you visit. Find addresses and hours on our contact page.
