Overview

A mid-century desk chair in grey technology fabric

The Camp Fabric Office Chair is the good-looking one in our office range. Three cushioned panels run the length of the back, a polished chrome frame curves through the armrests down to a five-star base, and the whole thing reads more like a study chair than an office chair — the sort you don't mind having in a room people can see. The seat drops to 45 cm and rises to 53 on a gas lift, the backrest reclines with a tension dial, and at 59 cm wide it's the narrowest chair we stock. What it doesn't have is a headrest — if you want one, look at the Casino or the Cloud.

Three-Panel Cushioned Back

Three horizontal cushion panels run the length of the backrest, padded rather than stretched over a frame. The panels sit across the shoulders, the mid-back and the lower back, so support is spread rather than concentrated in one band.

Chrome Frame & Arms

A polished chrome frame runs through the curved armrests — topped with small leather-look pads — and down to a chrome five-star castor base. The arms are fixed, which is part of the look: there's nothing bolted on to spoil the line.

45 cm Seat, 59 cm Wide

The seat drops to 45 cm, which suits most adults from around 165 cm tall, and the chair is only 59 cm across — the narrowest in our office range, and the one to look at first if your desk sits in an alcove or between two walls.

Reclining Back & Tension Dial

The backrest reclines, and a tension dial under the seat sets how much resistance it gives as you lean. The gas lift handles seat height and the chrome five-star base swivels a full 360°.

Will it fit?

What adjusts, and will it fit your desk?

Most office chairs at this price are sold on a photo and the word "ergonomic", without telling you the number that decides whether the chair suits you: how low the seat goes. Here is the Camp's full adjustment list — including what it doesn't do — and the checks that settle whether it works at your desk.

Seat height45 – 53 cm — gas lift, adjusts anywhere in between
Backrest reclineYes — reclining backrest
Tilt tension dialYes — set how much resistance the backrest gives as you lean
Swivel & castors360° — chrome five-star castor base
HeadrestNot on this chair — the Casino and Cloud both have one
ArmrestsFixed — they don't move up, down or out of the way
Adjustable lumbarNot on this chair — the lowest of the three back panels sits at lumbar height, but there's no lumbar adjustment
Sliding seat depthNot on this chair
45–53 cmSeat height range. Australian desks run 72–75 cm, and you want 25–30 cm between the seat top and the desk underside.
65 cmHow high the armrests sit off the floor at the lowest seat setting. They're fixed, so this one matters more than usual.
59 × 70 cmFloor footprint — the narrowest chair we stock, though a deep one.
  • Check your desk height first. Measure floor to desktop. At the Camp's lowest setting of 45 cm you get 27 cm of clearance under a 72 cm desk and 30 cm under a 75 cm one — mid-band at both ends. The top of its range is 53 cm, a little lower than our mesh chairs, so it's less suited to an unusually high work surface.
  • Will your feet reach the floor? The 45 cm minimum suits most adults from around 165 cm tall. If you're shorter, the Clontarf drops to 43 cm, or a footrest solves it.
  • The armrests are fixed — check them properly. They sit 65 cm off the floor at the lowest seat setting, which clears the underside of most 72–75 cm desks. But unlike our mesh chairs these arms don't flip up, so if your desk has a deep apron or a pull-out keyboard tray there's no fallback. Measure the underside of your desk before you order.
  • Narrow, but deep. At 59 cm across it's the narrowest chair we stock — the one to look at for an alcove or a desk between two walls. It's 70 cm deep though, so still allow around 70 cm of clear floor behind the desk edge to roll back and stand up.

Comfort can't be guessed from a photo. An office chair is the most personal piece of furniture you'll buy. Sit in the Camp at any of our five South East Queensland showrooms — Rocklea, Virginia, Beenleigh, Bundall and North Ipswich — set it to your body, and buy it only when it's right. Or call the team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll check it against your desk height first.

Measured off a floor stock chair in our Rocklea warehouse. The Camp PU Leather version is the same chair in a different covering and shares these measurements exactly. A rated weight capacity, the chair's own weight and the carton dimensions aren't printed on our supplier's paperwork, so we don't quote them — if any of those matter, call the showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll check a floor piece before you buy.

Technology fabric is a tight-woven upholstery chosen for everyday durability — it wears better than a loose weave and resists pilling. It is not a stain-resistant or waterproof finish, and we don't claim it is: blot spills promptly and keep it out of harsh direct sun. Colours on screen are approximate; we recommend seeing the finish in a showroom before you buy.

Caring for your chair

🧹

Vacuum weekly

Run the upholstery brush over the fabric every week or so. It lifts dust out of the weave before it works its way in and dulls the colour.

💧

Blot spills straight away

Blot with a dry cloth the moment something goes on it — rubbing pushes the spill into the weave instead of lifting it out.

🚫

Skip harsh cleaners

No bleach, solvents or abrasive scourers. They break down the fibres and can leave a permanent pale patch.

Wipe the chrome

A dry microfibre cloth on the frame, arms and base keeps the chrome bright. Wipe fingerprints off before they set.

What's in the box

Flat-packed — you assemble it

The Camp Fabric ships flat-packed in a single carton. It's a straightforward build: the seat, back and headrest arrive made up, and you fit the base, castors, gas lift and arms. All the hardware you need is in the box. If you'd rather not, add assembly above for $30 and our team will build it on delivery.

Compare the range

How the Camp compares to our other office chairs

We keep seven office chairs, and the right one depends on your height, your desk and whether you want a headrest. Here's the range side by side — compare the seat height range first, it decides more than anything else on the list.

ChairPriceSeat heightBackHeadrestArmrests
Clontarf Fabric $125 43–55 cm Padded mid-back No Fixed loop
Casino Mesh $179 47–55 cm Mesh Adjustable Flip-up
Cloud Mesh $199 45–55 cm Mesh, lumbar curve Adjustable Flip-up
Camp Fabric (this chair) $199 45–53 cm Three-panel padded No Fixed chrome
Camp PU Leather $199 45–53 cm Three-panel padded No Fixed chrome
Copenhagen Executive $249 52–60 cm Quilted high back No Fixed padded

The two Camp chairs are the same chair in different coverings — Camp PU Leather is the alternative, same price, same measurements. If you want a headrest or armrests that flip up, the Casino ($179) and Cloud ($199) are the mesh alternatives. Pair any of them with the Monalisa Study Table or the Homestead Study Desk, or browse all home office furniture.

Delivery & pickup

Two ways to get it home

Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. The chair travels flat-packed in one compact carton, so stairs and doorways are rarely a problem.

Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. The carton is compact enough for a hatchback boot or a back seat. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.

Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.

FAQ

Common questions

Down to 45 cm, and up to 53 cm, adjustable anywhere in between with the gas lift lever under the seat. Australian desks are usually 72-75 cm and you want 25-30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of the desk, so at 45 cm you get 27 cm under a 72 cm desk and 30 cm under a 75 cm one.

The 45 cm minimum suits most adults from around 165 cm tall. If you are shorter, the Clontarf Fabric Office Chair drops to 43 cm, or a footrest solves it. Come and sit in both at one of our showrooms if you can.

No. The Camp is a mid-back chair and the backrest stops below head height. If you want a headrest, the Casino Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair ($179) and the Cloud Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair ($199) both have an adjustable one.

The armrests sit 65 cm off the floor at the lowest seat setting, which clears the underside of most 72-75 cm desks. Worth checking carefully though, because these arms are fixed and do not flip up like the ones on our mesh chairs. At 59 cm wide it is the narrowest chair we stock, but it is 70 cm deep, so allow about 70 cm of clear floor behind your desk edge.

Three things: the seat height (45-53 cm on the gas lift), the backrest recline, and the tilt tension (a dial under the seat sets how much resistance the backrest gives). The armrests are fixed, there is no headrest, no lumbar adjustment and no sliding seat depth. It is a simpler chair than our mesh models, and priced the same because the finish is dressier.

A rated weight capacity is not printed on our supplier's paperwork, so we will not quote a number we cannot stand behind. If it is a deciding factor for your order, call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we will check a floor piece before you buy.

Vacuum the weave weekly with the upholstery brush, and blot spills straight away with a dry cloth rather than rubbing them in. Avoid bleach, solvents and abrasive scourers. Keep it out of strong direct sunlight, which fades fabric over time. The chrome frame just needs a dry microfibre wipe.

Yes. It ships flat-packed in one carton with the tools included. The seat and back arrive made up and you fit the base, castors, gas lift and arms. If you would rather skip it, add assembly at checkout and our team will build it on delivery for $30 per chair.

They are the same chair — same frame, same three-panel back, same measurements, same $199 price. The only difference is what it is covered in: grey technology fabric on this one, black PU leather on the other. Fabric is softer and warmer to sit on; PU wipes clean with a damp cloth, which tends to win in a household with kids.

Full details

Camp Fabric Office Chair — full product details

The Camp Fabric Office Chair is a mid-century-styled swivel desk chair upholstered in grey technology fabric, with three padded panels running the length of the backrest and a polished chrome frame that curves through the armrests down to a chrome five-star castor base. The seat adjusts from 45 to 53 cm on a gas lift, the seat pan measures 50 × 45 cm, and the chair occupies a 59 × 70 cm footprint with an overall height of 110–118 cm. It carries a 1-year warranty and is $199.

Three things adjust: the seat height, the backrest recline, and the tilt tension via a dial under the seat. The armrests are fixed, and there is no headrest, no lumbar adjustment and no sliding seat depth — it is a simpler chair than our mesh models, priced the same because the finish is dressier. The lowest of the three back panels sits at lumbar height, but it is a shaped panel rather than an adjustable support and we do not describe it as one.

On desk fit: Australian desks run 72–75 cm high and you want 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of the desk, so the Camp's 45 cm minimum gives 27 cm under a 72 cm desk and 30 cm under a 75 cm one. The armrests sit 65 cm off the floor at the lowest seat setting — worth measuring against your desk, because unlike the Casino and Cloud these arms do not flip up. A 45 cm minimum seat suits most adults from around 165 cm tall; shorter users should look at the Clontarf Fabric Office Chair, which drops to 43 cm. At 59 cm wide it is the narrowest chair in our office range, though at 70 cm deep it still needs about 70 cm of clear floor behind the desk.

The same chair is available as the Camp PU Leather Office Chair — identical frame, back and measurements, at the same price, in a different covering. The chair ships flat-packed in one carton with the tools included, or you can add in-home assembly for $30 per chair. A rated weight capacity and carton dimensions aren't printed on our supplier's paperwork, so we don't publish them — call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 if either matters. Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different. Because comfort can't be judged from a photo, we recommend sitting in it first: browse all office chairs, then see it in person at any of our five A2Z Furniture showrooms — Rocklea, Virginia, Bundall (Gold Coast), North Ipswich and Beenleigh.
