Overview
Gel across the whole surface, not just a patch
Plenty of gel pillows put a small gel panel in the middle and call it a cooling pillow — you find the edge of it the moment you move. This one carries a gel pad across the full front face. Underneath sits a slow-rebound memory foam core at medium-to-high density, holding a 12 cm profile.
Full-front gel pad
The gel covers the entire front surface rather than a partial patch in the centre, so the feel stays consistent wherever your head lands during the night.
Slow-rebound memory foam
Slow rebound means the foam yields gradually under your head and returns gradually when you move, rather than springing back. It settles into your shape instead of pushing against it.
Medium-to-high density core
A denser core resists bottoming out and holds its profile over time. It is the specification that separates a foam pillow that lasts from one that goes flat.
12 cm profile
Mid-to-high as pillows go — the same profile as our solid bamboo memory foam pillow, so if that height suits you, this is the cooler-feeling equivalent.
Finding your fit
Is a 12 cm profile right for how you sleep?
A pillow's job is to fill the gap between your head and the mattress so your neck stays in line with your spine. How big that gap is depends almost entirely on which way you sleep. Here is the general guidance, so you can judge it against yourself.
Side sleepers
Lying on your side leaves the widest gap — the width of your shoulder. A higher profile like 12 cm is generally what fills it, keeping your head level rather than tipped down towards the mattress. Broader shoulders tend to need more height.
Back sleepers
On your back the gap is smaller, so a medium profile usually suits. Twelve centimetres can work if you have a broader frame or a softer mattress that lets your shoulders sink in, and can feel too high if you don't.
Stomach sleepers
Face down there is barely a gap at all, so a low, flat pillow is usually the better match. We would not steer a dedicated stomach sleeper to a 12 cm profile — browse the full pillow range for a lower option.
This is general guidance on pillow height, not a medical recommendation, and it is a starting point rather than a rule — your mattress firmness and your own build both change the answer. If you have neck or back pain, please talk to a health professional about what is right for you. Better still, come and rest your head on one at any of our five SE QLD showrooms.
Profile & sizeHow tall it actually sits
Measured at the highest point with the pillow uncompressed. Memory foam compresses under the weight of your head, so the height you sleep at will be lower than the height you measure — that is normal, and it is why profile figures are best used to compare one pillow against another rather than read as a finished number.

What the gel pad does — and what it doesn't
A gel pad conducts heat away from the surface faster than foam alone, so the face of the pillow feels cooler to the touch when you first lie down and when you move to a fresh spot. It is a surface-feel property, not air conditioning — it will not keep a hot room cool, and we would rather say so than oversell it. What it does do is stop the gel-free areas of a partial-patch pillow feeling warm by comparison, because there aren't any.
Care & washingWashing it without wrecking it
It is a memory foam pillow, so the memory foam rule applies — and it is not optional, because getting it wrong destroys the foam. Check the care label on your own pillow and follow it.
The cover and surface
Use a pillowcase, and a pillow protector under it. If your pillow has a cover that unzips and comes off the foam, wash that separately and follow its sewn-in care label. If it does not come off, spot clean it in place.
The foam core and gel pad
Never machine-wash, wring or tumble-dry memory foam. Water breaks it down and it will not recover its shape. Spot-clean with a barely damp cloth and air-dry completely, away from direct heat and sunlight.
Fluff it daily
Give the pillow a shake and a fluff each morning to redistribute the filling. It is the single easiest thing you can do to keep the surface even and the height consistent.
Use a pillow protector
The cheapest way to keep the pillow clean and cut down how often it needs washing at all.
Air it regularly
Strip the pillowcase back and let the pillow air for an hour or so when you change the bedding. It keeps things fresher between washes.
Keep it out of direct sun
Prolonged direct sunlight and high heat degrade filling and can yellow a cover. Dry in the shade.

What the warranty does not cover
- The gradual loss of loft that every filling develops with use. This is normal wear, not a fault.
- Damage caused by washing against the care instructions — machine-washing a filling that is spot-clean only, tumble-drying, bleaching or dry-cleaning.
- Staining, soiling or damage from spills, which is why we recommend a protector from day one.
- A change of mind about comfort or firmness. Firmness is personal, so please try it at one of our showrooms before you buy.
This warranty is in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

FAQ
Questions we get asked
It changes how the surface feels rather than cooling the room. Gel conducts heat away from the face of the pillow faster than foam alone, so it feels cooler when you lie down and when you move to a fresh spot. Because the pad covers the full front surface rather than a centre patch, that feel is consistent wherever your head lands. It is not air conditioning, and we would rather tell you that than oversell it.
Same 12 cm profile and the same solid-foam approach, but this one adds a full-surface cooling gel pad and uses a slow-rebound foam at medium-to-high density. Choose this one if you run warm; choose the bamboo version if you would rather have a published cover material and a removable, machine-washable cover.
A 12 cm profile is mid-to-high, and higher profiles are generally what side sleepers need, because lying on your side leaves the widest gap between your head and the mattress. Your shoulder width and mattress firmness both shift the answer, so treat it as a starting point and try one in person if you can.
Not in a machine. Memory foam must never be machine-washed, wrung or tumble-dried — water breaks it down permanently. Spot-clean with a barely damp cloth and air-dry fully, away from heat and direct sun. Use a pillowcase and a pillow protector so the pillow itself rarely needs cleaning.
It describes how quickly the foam returns to shape after pressure comes off. Slow-rebound foam yields gradually under the weight of your head and returns gradually when you move, so it settles into your shape rather than springing back against it.
It is covered against manufacturing faults in materials and workmanship for 12 months from the date of purchase. Change-of-mind returns follow the same policy as the rest of our furniture range — see our warranty and returns policy for the details. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law always apply on top of any warranty we offer.
Full detailsMellow Pillow Memory Foam Cooling Gel Pillow — full product details
The Mellow Pillow Memory Foam Cooling Gel Pillow measures 60 × 40 × 12 cm and pairs a slow-rebound memory foam core at medium-to-high density with a cooling gel pad that runs across the full front surface. That last point is the meaningful one: many gel pillows use a partial gel panel in the centre, so the feel changes as soon as you move off it. A full-surface pad keeps the surface consistent wherever your head lands.
Slow-rebound foam yields gradually under the weight of your head and returns gradually when pressure comes off, settling into your shape rather than pushing back against it. The medium-to-high density core resists bottoming out and helps the pillow hold its 12 cm profile over time. At that height it sits mid-to-high, which is generally the range side sleepers need — lying on your side leaves the widest gap between head and mattress. Back sleepers usually need less height, and stomach sleepers are typically better served by a low, flat pillow.
Like any memory foam pillow, the core must never be machine-washed. Compare it with the solid bamboo memory foam pillow at the same profile, or the adjustable shredded version if you would rather set your own height.
