Overview

Glass on top, warm timber-grain underneath

The name is about the timber tone, not a timber top. The Darkwood pairs a black tempered safety glass top — edged with a warm reddish-brown timber-grain band — with two sculptural black curved arch legs, so you get the easy-clean practicality of glass with a warm timber note, rather than the cold all-glass-and-chrome look. It's a useful combination in a room that already has timber in it. At 200 × 100 cm it seats six comfortably and eight with the ends in use.

Black Tempered Safety Glass

Heat-treated to be several times stronger than ordinary glass, and engineered to crumble into small blunt granules rather than sharp shards in the rare event it breaks. Black glass hides fingerprints better than clear, and wipes clean in seconds.

Sculptural Black Arch Legs

Two curved black arches rather than four straight legs — they sweep outward as they meet the floor, which is what gives the Darkwood its shape. Set in from the ends, so the end seats stay clear.

Warm Timber Edge Band

The top is edged in a warm reddish-brown timber grain — the detail the Darkwood name comes from. It is what stops a black glass table reading as cold, and lets it sit alongside timber flooring without clashing.

200 × 100 cm

Three settings down each side at the Australian 60 cm per person, plus a chair at each end when you need eight. The full 100 cm of width leaves a genuine centre run for platters and boards.

Seats & space

How many it seats, and the room it needs

A dining table is the one piece people most often buy too big for the room. Three checks settle it — how many it really seats, how much floor it needs, and whether your chairs fit underneath. Here's how the Darkwood's 200 × 100 × 75 cm measures up against the Australian rules of thumb.

Dining table sizing guide: allow 60 cm of table edge per person, leave at least 90 cm of clear floor on every side, pair a 71 to 78 cm high table with chairs of 45 to 48 cm seat height for 25 to 30 cm of knee room, and a table-length-to-seats ready reckoner from 120 cm seating four up to 270 cm seating ten.
6–8Six down the long sides at 60 cm each; eight with a chair at each end.
3.8 × 2.8 mMinimum room size, allowing the 90 cm of clearance you need to pull chairs out.
75 cmTable height — right in the standard 71–76 cm range.
  • Allow 60 cm of table edge per person. At 200 cm long, that's 3 settings down each side — six in total. Adding a chair at each end takes it to eight. Six is the everyday number; eight works for a full table.
  • Leave 90 cm clear on every side. That's the Australian standard for pulling a chair out and walking behind it. Add 180 cm to each of the table's dimensions and you get the minimum room: about 3.8 × 2.8 m. If the table sits near a kitchen walkway, aim for 105–120 cm of clearance instead — roughly 4.1 × 3.1 m.
  • Check your chair seat height. The top sits at 75 cm. A dining chair with a 45–48 cm seat height gives comfortable knee room; very low or heavily padded seats will feel cramped.
  • Plan the delivery path, not just the room. It ships flat-packed, so getting the cartons in is straightforward — but the glass top is heavy and once built it's 200 cm long and won't turn a tight corner. Build it in the room it's staying in.

Not sure it fits? Mark out 200 × 100 cm on your floor with masking tape and sit a chair at it before you order. Or call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 — we'll talk it through against your room measurements.

Styling

Chairs, and what goes on top

The warm edge tone is the thing to style to. Timber chairs in a similar depth of colour make it read as one piece; black metal chairs push it contemporary; and upholstered chairs in tan, rust or olive pick up the reddish note in the grain. On the glass, a runner is worth having — it warms the surface visually and saves you wiping the whole top after every meal.

The timber tone here is a grain-effect edge band, not solid timber — we're saying so plainly because the name invites the opposite assumption. If you want a genuine solid timber top, look at the Jayden or Jericho dining tables instead.

Caring for your table

Clean with glass cleaner

A microfibre cloth and a standard glass cleaner keeps the top clear. Spray the cloth rather than the glass so cleaner doesn't run into the joins with the base.

🍽️

Mats under hot and heavy

Tempered glass handles daily use well, but use trivets under hot dishes and coasters under drinks — thermal shock and ground-in grit are what damage a glass top over time.

⚠️

Mind the edges and corners

Tempered glass is strong across its face but vulnerable at the edges. Avoid knocking the rim with hard objects, and don't drag heavy items on and off over the edge.

🧽

Wipe the base separately

The base takes a soft, barely damp cloth — not glass cleaner. Skip abrasive scourers and harsh chemicals, which dull lacquered and metal finishes.

What's in the box

Flat-packed — screwdriver, mallet and a second pair of hands

The Darkwood Dining Table ships flat-packed. Assembly needs a screwdriver and a rubber mallet, and an electric drill makes it considerably quicker. The glass top is heavy, so it's genuinely a two-person job — or add assembly to your order above and our team will build it in your home on delivery.

Delivery & pickup

Two ways to get it home

Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. The table travels flat-packed, so doorways and stairs are rarely a problem; add assembly above if you'd like it built in the room on delivery.

Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. The cartons are flat but long and the glass top is heavy — bring a vehicle that can take them lying flat, and a second person to load. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.

Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.

FAQ

Common questions

Six comfortably, or eight with the ends in use. At 200 cm long you get 3 settings down each side at the Australian standard of 60 cm of table edge per person; a chair at each end takes it to eight. Six is the everyday number, eight is the full-table number.

About 3.8 × 2.8 m as a minimum. The rule is 90 cm of clear space on every side so chairs can be pulled out and people can walk past — add 180 cm to each of the table's dimensions (200 × 100 cm). If the table sits near a kitchen walkway, allow 105–120 cm of clearance instead, or roughly 4.1 × 3.1 m.

Yes — that's exactly why it's used. Tempered glass is heat-treated to be several times stronger than ordinary glass, and in the rare event it does break it crumbles into small blunt granules rather than long sharp shards. It isn't shatterproof and we won't claim it is; it's safety glass, which is a different and more honest thing.

No — the top is black tempered safety glass. The Darkwood name refers to the warm reddish-brown timber-grain band edging the top, not to a timber top. We're spelling that out because the name naturally suggests otherwise. If you want a solid timber top, look at the Jayden or Jericho dining tables.

Yes. It arrives flat-packed and needs a screwdriver and a rubber mallet — an electric drill makes it quicker. The glass top is heavy, so plan on two people, or add in-home assembly to your order and our team will build it for you.

The top sits at 75 cm. Chairs with a seat height of about 45–48 cm give comfortable knee room; very low seats or thickly padded ones will feel tight. If your chairs have arms and you need the exact underside clearance, call us on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor piece.

No — the price is for the table alone. Dining chairs are sold separately.

Full details

Darkwood Dining Table — full product details

The Darkwood Dining Table is a 200 × 100 × 75 cm dining table with a black tempered safety glass top, edged with a warm reddish-brown timber-grain band, carried on two sculptural black curved arch legs. Despite the name, the top is glass, not timber — the Darkwood name refers to the timber-grain edge. The combination gives you the easy-clean practicality of a glass dining surface with the visual warmth of a wood-toned piece underneath, rather than the colder all-glass-and-chrome look.

At the Australian standard of 60 cm of table edge per person, 200 cm seats six comfortably down the sides and eight once a chair goes at each end. Allow at least 90 cm of clear floor on every side so chairs can be pulled out and people can walk behind them, which puts the minimum room size at roughly 3.8 m × 2.8 m. At 75 cm the top sits within the standard 71–76 cm height band, so most dining chairs pair with it without trouble.

The table ships flat-packed in two cartons with a printed instruction manual, and needs a screwdriver and rubber mallet to assemble — the glass top makes it a two-person job, or in-home assembly can be added to your order. It carries a 1-year warranty. Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different — we highly recommend you visit the store before the purchase. Pair it with the Darkwood Coffee Table, or if you want a genuine solid timber top see the Jericho instead. See it in person at any of our five A2Z Furniture showrooms: Rocklea, Virginia, Bundall (Gold Coast), North Ipswich and Beenleigh.
