Overview
The only bar stool here with arms
Every other bar stool we sell is a seat and a back. The Columbia adds a pair of slim metal armrests that curve up from the base of the backrest, and that one difference changes how the stool is used — you settle into it rather than perch on it. The back is channel-stitched velvet in a tall fluted curve, the seat is 44 cm wide, and the whole thing sits on a gas-lift pedestal that adjusts from 62 cm to 82 cm and swivels a full circle. Grey comes on a chrome base; black and green come on gold. The price is for two stools.
Curved Metal Armrests
Slim polished arms sweep from the back of the seat up into the backrest frame. They're the reason this stool suits a kitchen where people actually sit and talk rather than pass through — but they're also the part to measure if you tuck your stools under the bench.
Channel-Stitched Velvet Back
The backrest is stitched into vertical channels that curve around the sitter, giving the velvet a ribbed, tailored look and catching light down each flute. It stands 28 cm above the seat — supportive without dominating the room visually.
Gas Lift, 62–82 cm
A lever under the seat moves the stool through a 20 cm range, covering both a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench and a 101–106 cm bar. One pair suits the kitchen you have now and the one you might renovate into.
Gold or Chrome
Grey comes on chrome; black and green come on gold, and the arms match the base. Follow your kitchen hardware — gold with brass tapware and warm timber, chrome with stainless steel and cooler stone.

Will it fit your bench?
This is the question that decides whether a bar stool works or gets sent back, and almost nobody answers it on the product page. There are two standard heights in an Australian kitchen, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. Here's how the Columbia's 62–82 cm range measures up — plus the extra check the armrests make necessary.
- Measure to the underside of your bench, not the top. Subtract 25–30 cm from that figure and you have the seat height you want. A typical 90 cm kitchen bench has an underside around 88 cm, putting you at roughly 60–63 cm of seat.
- A standard kitchen bench (87–91 cm): yes. Wound down to its 62 cm minimum the Columbia fits a standard bench, sitting at the upper end of the ideal band. If your bench is at the low end of 87 cm, check the clearance before ordering.
- A bar table or raised island (101–106 cm): yes. Wound up to 82 cm it clears a raised bar comfortably — this is where the footrest earns its place, because your feet won't reach the floor.
- The armrests are the real clearance check. On a stool with arms, the arms sit higher than the seat, so they — not the seat — are what hits the underside of a benchtop. If you like your stools pushed fully under the bench when they're not in use, measure the height of the arms above the floor at the stool's lowest setting and compare it to your bench underside. Left standing beside the bench rather than tucked under it, this is a non-issue.
- Allow about 60 cm of bench per stool. The seat is 44 cm wide and the arms add a little beyond it, so 60 cm per stool keeps elbows and arms clear. A 120 cm bench takes two, 180 cm takes three, 240 cm takes four.

Gas lift & swivel
How the height adjustment works
The Columbia runs on a gas-lift cylinder, the same mechanism as a good office chair. A lever sits beneath the seat: lift it with your weight off the stool and the seat rises, lift it while seated and it lowers. Release and it locks wherever you've set it. The seat also swivels a full 360° independently of the base.

Velvet is the trade-off with this stool: it gives the Columbia its depth of colour and the way light runs down each stitched flute, but it's a pile fabric, so it shows pressure marks and shading where it's been sat on and holds dust more than a flat weave. That's the nature of velvet rather than a fault. Colours on screen are approximate — see them in a showroom if the exact shade matters.
Caring for your stools
Brush along the flutes
A soft brush or an upholstery vacuum head, run in one direction along the channel stitching, lifts dust out of the seams and evens out pressure marks. The stitched flutes trap more than a flat back, so it's worth doing occasionally.
Blot, never rub
Blot spills straight away with a clean dry cloth. Rubbing drives liquid deeper and crushes the pile, leaving a mark long after the spill is gone. A protector applied when new is far more effective than treating a stain later.
Wipe the metal dry
Buff the arms and base with a dry soft cloth — they're the parts hands touch most, so fingerprints show on both chrome and gold. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which dull the finish permanently.
Check the fittings
Any stool that swivels and takes daily weight will loosen slightly over the first few months — and arms give people extra leverage. Nip the base, seat and arm fittings up after a few weeks, then once or twice a year.
