Overview

Two stools that fit a bench or a bar

The Colombo Bar Stool is a gas-lift kitchen stool with a buttoned, diamond-quilted backrest, a padded 45 × 43 cm seat and a black trumpet base with a built-in footrest. Because the seat travels from 64 cm to 84 cm, one pair covers both a standard kitchen bench and a taller island bar — you're not locked into the height of the kitchen you have today. Choose grey fabric for a softer, warmer look or black PU leather for a wipe-clean surface. They arrive flat-packed and need no tools of your own, and the price is for two stools, not one.

Gas Lift, 64–84 cm

A lever under the seat raises and lowers the stool through a 20 cm range. That covers the two Australian standards — a 87–91 cm kitchen bench and a 101–106 cm bar — so the same stool works if you move house or renovate the kitchen.

360° Swivel

The seat turns a full circle on the base, so you can slide in and out without dragging the stool across the floor — the practical difference between a stool people actually use and one that sits pushed under the bench.

Buttoned Backrest & Padded Seat

A 37 cm backrest with diamond button-tufting gives genuine back support, not just a token lip. The seat is 45 cm wide and 43 cm deep — wide enough to sit properly through a meal rather than perch.

Weighted Base & Footrest

A wide, weighted trumpet base in matte black keeps the stool planted, and the black ring footrest means your feet have somewhere to go when the seat is up at bar height — the detail that decides whether a tall stool is comfortable.

Bench & bar fit

Will it fit your bench?

This is the question that decides whether a bar stool works or gets returned, and almost nobody answers it on the product page. There are two standard heights in an Australian kitchen, and the rule that connects them to a stool is simple: you want 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. Here's how the Colombo's 64–84 cm range measures up.

Bar stool fit guide: a kitchen bench 87 to 91 cm high needs a seat height of 60 to 66 cm, a bar table 101 to 106 cm high needs a seat height of 72 to 76 cm, allow 25 to 30 cm between the seat top and the bench underside, and allow about 60 cm of bench width per stool so 120 cm seats two, 180 cm seats three and 240 cm seats four.
64–84 cmSeat height range — covers both a kitchen bench and a bar.
BothSuits 87–91 cm benches and 101–106 cm bar tables.
~60 cmBench width to allow per stool, including elbow room.
  • Measure to the underside of your bench, not the top. Take that figure and subtract 25–30 cm — that's the seat height you want. A typical 90 cm kitchen bench has an underside around 88 cm, which puts you at about 60–63 cm of seat.
  • A standard kitchen bench (87–91 cm): yes. Wound down towards its 64 cm minimum, the Colombo sits comfortably under a standard bench. If your bench is at the lower end and you like a lot of knee room, you'll be using the bottom of the range.
  • A bar table or raised island (101–106 cm): yes. Wound up towards 84 cm, it clears a raised bar comfortably. This is where the footrest earns its place — at that height your feet won't reach the floor.
  • Allow about 60 cm of bench per stool. The seat is 45 cm wide, and the extra 15 cm keeps elbows apart. A 120 cm bench takes two, 180 cm takes three, 240 cm takes four. Leave the end stool about 30 cm clear of a wall so it can still swivel.
  • Check the height above the seat too. With the backrest, total height runs roughly 37 cm above whatever the seat is set to — worth knowing if the stools tuck under an overhanging benchtop when not in use.

Not sure? Measure from your floor to the underside of the bench and call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 — we'll tell you straight away whether the Colombo suits it, and you can sit on a pair at our Rocklea showroom before you decide.

Gas lift & swivel

How the height adjustment works

The Colombo runs on a gas-lift cylinder — the same mechanism as a good office chair. A lever sits under the right-hand side of the seat: lift it with your weight off the stool and the seat rises, lift it while seated and it lowers. Release the lever and it locks at whatever height you've set. The seat also swivels a full 360° independently of the base.

Weight capacity

The 100 kg rating is per stool, not per set. Bar stools of this construction are rated for normal domestic use — they aren't commercial-grade seating for a venue. If you need the exact footrest height from the floor or the height of the base at its lowest setting, call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor stock piece before you order.

The black variant is PU leather — a synthetic upholstery, not genuine leather. It's the easier surface to wipe down, which is why it suits a kitchen bench where food is handled; the grey fabric is warmer underfoot and quieter in a room, but marks need attention sooner. Colours on screen are approximate — see them in a showroom if the exact shade matters.

Caring for your stools

🧽

Wipe the PU clean

A soft damp cloth handles the black PU leather — wipe spills as they happen rather than letting them sit. Skip solvents and abrasive cleaners, which dry the surface out and cause it to crack over time.

🧴

Treat the fabric early

On the grey fabric, blot spills straight away rather than rubbing them in. A fabric protector applied when the stools are new is far more effective than trying to lift a stain later.

🔧

Check the fittings

Any stool that swivels and takes daily weight will loosen slightly over the first few months. Nip the base and seat fittings up after a few weeks, then once or twice a year — it's the single thing that stops a wobble developing.

☀️

Keep out of direct sun

Strong direct sunlight fades fabric and hardens PU over time. If the stools sit at a window-facing bench, close the blind through the harshest part of the day.

Delivery & pickup

Two ways to get them home

Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. Both stools travel flat-packed in a single 60.5 × 53 × 50.5 cm carton, so doorways and stairs are rarely an issue; add assembly above if you'd like them built on delivery.

Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. The set ships in one box measuring 60.5 × 53 × 50.5 cm, which fits in most car boots or across a back seat. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.

Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.

FAQ

Common questions

Allow 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. In practice that means a seat height of 60–66 cm for a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench, and 72–76 cm for a 101–106 cm bar table. The Colombo adjusts from 64 cm to 84 cm, so it covers both.

Measure from the floor to the underside of the benchtop, not the top surface — the thickness of the bench doesn't count as knee room. Subtract 25–30 cm from that figure and you have the seat height you're looking for.

Two. The Colombo is sold only as a set of two stools and the price shown covers both. Both stools in a set are the same colour.

Allow about 60 cm of bench width per stool — the 45 cm seat plus elbow room. A 120 cm bench takes two, 180 cm takes three and 240 cm takes four. Keep the end stool around 30 cm clear of a wall or return so it can still swivel out.

Yes — the seat turns a full 360° on the base, independently of the gas-lift column, so you can get in and out without moving the stool.

100 kg per stool. That's a rating for normal domestic use — these aren't commercial-grade stools for a venue or a bar that runs all day.

Yes, but no tools of your own are required — the set ships flat-packed in one carton with the fittings included. If you'd rather not, add stool assembly to your order and our team will build both stools in your home on delivery.

No — it's PU leather, a synthetic upholstery, not animal hide. It wipes clean easily, which suits a kitchen bench. The grey variant is a woven fabric.

Full details

Colombo Bar Stool (Set of 2) — full product details

The Colombo Bar Stool is a gas-lift kitchen bar stool sold as a set of two, with a diamond button-tufted backrest, a padded seat measuring 45 cm wide by 43 cm deep, and a weighted black trumpet base with a fixed ring footrest. The seat adjusts from 64 cm to 84 cm and swivels a full 360°, and each stool is rated to 100 kg for normal domestic use. Choose grey woven fabric for a softer look, or black PU leather — a synthetic, wipe-clean upholstery — for a kitchen bench where food is handled.

Australian kitchens run to two standard heights, and the rule that connects them to a stool is 25–30 cm of clearance between the top of the seat and the underside of the bench. A kitchen bench of 87–91 cm calls for a seat height around 60–66 cm; a bar table or raised island of 101–106 cm calls for 72–76 cm. Because the Colombo's gas lift spans 64–84 cm, a single pair covers both — useful if you're buying for a bench now but may renovate or move later. Allow roughly 60 cm of bench width per stool, so a 120 cm bench seats two, 180 cm seats three and 240 cm seats four.

The set ships flat-packed in one carton measuring 60.5 × 53 × 50.5 cm and assembles without any external tools — the fittings are included, and in-home assembly can be added to your order. It carries a 1-year warranty. Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different — we highly recommend you visit the store before the purchase.
