The Casablanca is the statement stool in our range — a hand-woven velvet backrest that curves right around the seat, framed by a slim metal ring and set on a gas-lift pedestal. The woven basket back is the detail that does the work: it catches the light differently from every angle, so a pair reads as furniture rather than seating. Available in black or green with a gold base, or grey with a chrome base. The seat adjusts from 60 cm to 80 cm and swivels a full circle, and the price is for two stools.
Hand-Woven Velvet Back
The backrest is woven in broad velvet strips into a basket-weave curve, not simply upholstered flat. It wraps around the sitter rather than stopping behind them, and the weave gives the stool depth and shadow that a plain padded back can't.
Gas Lift, 60–80 cm
A lever under the seat moves the stool through a 20 cm range, covering both a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench and a 101–106 cm bar. One pair suits the kitchen you have now and the one you might renovate into.
Gold or Chrome Base
Black and green come on a warm gold-finish base and frame; grey comes on chrome. Pick the one that follows your kitchen hardware — gold with brass tapware and warm timber, chrome with stainless steel and cooler stone.
Weighted Base & Footrest

Will it fit your bench?
This is the question that decides whether a bar stool works or gets sent back, and almost nobody answers it on the product page. There are two standard heights in an Australian kitchen, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. Here's how the Casablanca's 60–80 cm range measures up.
- Measure to the underside of your bench, not the top. Subtract 25–30 cm from that figure and you have the seat height you want. A typical 90 cm kitchen bench has an underside around 88 cm, putting you at roughly 60–63 cm of seat.
- A standard kitchen bench (87–91 cm): yes. Wound down to its 60 cm minimum, the Casablanca sits comfortably under a standard bench with room to spare.
- A bar table or raised island (101–106 cm): yes, at the top of its range. Wound up to 80 cm it clears a raised bar. If your bar sits at the taller end of that band you'll be using the very top of the adjustment, so measure before you order.
- Allow about 60 cm of bench per stool. The seat is 40 cm wide — narrower than most in our range — but the woven back is wider than the seat, so don't plan on the seat width alone. A 120 cm bench takes two, 180 cm takes three, 240 cm takes four.
- Leave room for the back to clear. The woven backrest stands 23 cm above the seat and curves outward. If your stools tuck fully under an overhanging benchtop when not in use, check that the back clears the overhang.

Gas lift & swivel
How the height adjustment works
The Casablanca runs on a gas-lift cylinder, the same mechanism as a good office chair. A lever sits beneath the seat: lift it with your weight off the stool and the seat rises, lift it while seated and it lowers. Release and it locks wherever you've set it. The seat also swivels a full 360° independently of the base.

Velvet is the trade-off with this stool: it gives the Casablanca its depth of colour and the way the weave catches light, but it's a pile fabric, so it shows pressure marks and shading where it's been sat on and holds onto dust more than a flat weave. That's the nature of velvet rather than a fault. Colours on screen are approximate — see them in a showroom if the exact shade matters.
Caring for your stools
Brush the pile
A soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, run in one direction, lifts dust out of the weave and evens out pressure marks. Doing it occasionally keeps the velvet looking consistent rather than patchy.
Blot, never rub
Blot spills straight away with a clean dry cloth. Rubbing drives liquid deeper and crushes the pile, which leaves a mark long after the spill itself is gone. A protector applied when new is far more effective than treating a stain later.
Check the fittings
Any stool that swivels and takes daily weight will loosen slightly over the first few months. Nip the base and seat fittings up after a few weeks, then once or twice a year — it's what stops a wobble developing.
Keep out of direct sun
Velvet fades faster than most upholstery in strong sunlight, and the metal finish dulls over time too. If the stools sit at a window-facing bench, close the blind through the harshest part of the day.
