Overview
The widest seat in the range
At 52 cm across, the Cairo has the widest seat of any bar stool we sell — a genuine difference when you're sitting through a meal rather than perching for a coffee. The grid-quilted seat and tall 40 cm backrest give it the look of a dining chair on a gas-lift column, and it comes in four colours across three different upholsteries: technology fabric in grey or orange, green velvet, or black PU leather. The seat adjusts from 62 cm to 82 cm and swivels a full circle. The price is for two stools.
52 cm Wide Seat
Most bar stools sit between 40 and 46 cm across. The Cairo's 52 cm seat is closer to a dining chair, which is what makes it comfortable for a long breakfast rather than a quick one. Worth knowing when you're working out how many will fit along your bench.
Tall 40 cm Backrest
The backrest stands 40 cm above the seat — the tallest in our range — with grid quilting running across it. It supports the whole of your back rather than just the base of your spine, which is the difference between a stool you linger on and one you don't.
Gas Lift, 62–82 cm
A lever under the seat moves the stool through a 20 cm range, covering both a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench and a 101–106 cm bar. One pair suits the kitchen you have now and the one you might renovate into.
Four Colours, Three Fabrics
Grey and orange are a hard-wearing technology fabric, green is velvet, and black is PU leather. Each has a different feel and a different cleaning routine — the care options below change to match whichever you pick.
Bench & bar fit
Will it fit your bench?
This is the question that decides whether a bar stool works or gets sent back, and almost nobody answers it on the product page. There are two standard heights in an Australian kitchen, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. Here's how the Cairo's 62–82 cm range measures up — and why its 52 cm seat changes the second calculation.
- Measure to the underside of your bench, not the top. Subtract 25–30 cm from that figure and you have the seat height you want. A typical 90 cm kitchen bench has an underside around 88 cm, putting you at roughly 60–63 cm of seat.
- A standard kitchen bench (87–91 cm): yes. Wound down to its 62 cm minimum the Cairo fits a standard bench, though it sits at the top of the ideal band rather than the middle. If your bench is at the low end of 87 cm, check the clearance before ordering.
- A bar table or raised island (101–106 cm): yes. Wound up to 82 cm it clears a raised bar comfortably — this is where the footrest matters, because your feet won't reach the floor.
- Allow 65–70 cm of bench per stool, not the usual 60. This is the one that catches people out. The 52 cm seat is 6–12 cm wider than a typical bar stool, so three Cairos need about 2 m of bench where three narrower stools would fit in 1.8 m. On a 180 cm bench, two Cairos sit far more comfortably than three.
- Mind the tall back. The backrest stands 40 cm above the seat — the tallest in our range. If you tuck your stools fully under an overhanging benchtop, measure that the back clears the overhang at its lowest setting.
Not sure? Measure from your floor to the underside of the bench, and the clear run of benchtop you have to work with. Call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll tell you how many Cairos fit and whether the height suits — or sit on a pair at our Rocklea showroom.
Gas lift & swivel
How the height adjustment works
The Cairo runs on a gas-lift cylinder, the same mechanism as a good office chair. A lever sits beneath the seat: lift it with your weight off the stool and the seat rises, lift it while seated and it lowers. Release and it locks wherever you've set it. The seat also swivels a full 360° independently of the base.
- Adjustment
- Gas lift — seat travels 62 cm to 82 cm
- Swivel
- 360°, seat turns independently of the base
- Footrest
- Fixed ring footrest on the column, matte black
- Base
- Weighted round trumpet base in matte black — every colour
- Weight capacity
- 100 kg per stool
The 100 kg rating is per stool, not per set, and reflects normal domestic use — these aren't commercial-grade stools for a venue. If you need the exact footrest height from the floor or the overall height at the maximum setting, call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor stock piece before you order.

Three genuinely different surfaces, so pick for how you'll use them. Technology fabric (grey, orange) is the most forgiving day to day — tightly woven and hard-wearing. Velvet (green) has the richest colour but is a pile fabric, so it shows pressure marks and shading where it's been sat on; that's the material, not a fault. PU leather (black) is synthetic, not animal hide, and is the easiest to wipe down, which suits a bench where food is handled. Colours on screen are approximate — see them in a showroom if the exact shade matters.
Caring for your stools
Fabric & velvet: blot early
Blot spills straight away rather than rubbing — rubbing drives liquid deeper and, on the green velvet, crushes the pile so a mark lingers after the spill is gone. A protector applied when new beats treating a stain later.
PU: wipe, don't scrub
A soft damp cloth handles the black PU leather. Skip solvents and abrasive cleaners — they dry the surface out and cause it to crack over time. Wipe spills as they happen rather than letting them sit.
Check the fittings
Any stool that swivels and takes daily weight will loosen slightly over the first few months. Nip the base and seat fittings up after a few weeks, then once or twice a year — it's what stops a wobble developing.
Keep out of direct sun
Strong sunlight fades fabric, hardens PU and dulls velvet faster than most upholstery. If the stools sit at a window-facing bench, close the blind through the harshest part of the day.
Delivery & pickup
Two ways to get them home
Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. Both stools travel flat-packed in a single 72 × 39 × 55 cm carton, so doorways and stairs are rarely an issue; add assembly above if you'd like them built on delivery.
Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. The set ships in one box measuring 72 × 39 × 55 cm, which fits in most car boots or across a back seat. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.
Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.

FAQ
Common questions
Allow 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. In practice that means a seat height of 60–66 cm for a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench, and 72–76 cm for a 101–106 cm bar table. The Cairo adjusts from 62 cm to 82 cm, so it covers both.
Fewer than you'd expect, because the Cairo's seat is 52 cm wide — the widest in our range. Allow 65–70 cm of bench per stool rather than the usual 60 cm. On a 180 cm bench, two Cairos sit comfortably where three narrower stools would fit; a 240 cm bench takes three comfortably.
Two. The Cairo is sold only as a set of two stools and the price shown covers both. Both stools in a set are the same colour.
They're three different materials. Grey and orange are a technology fabric — a tightly woven performance weave that's the most forgiving day to day. Green is velvet, which has the richest colour but shows pressure marks. Black is PU leather, a synthetic that wipes clean most easily. The frame and base are matte black on all four.
No — it's PU leather, a synthetic upholstery, not animal hide. It wipes clean easily, which suits a kitchen bench where food is handled.
Yes — the seat turns a full 360° on the base, independently of the gas-lift column, so you can get in and out without moving the stool.
100 kg per stool. That's a rating for normal domestic use — these aren't commercial-grade stools for a venue or a bar that runs all day.
Yes — they arrive flat-packed with the fittings included. If you'd rather not build them, add stool assembly to your order and our team will assemble both stools in your home on delivery.
Full details
Cairo Bar Stool (Set of 2) — full product details
The Cairo Bar Stool is a gas-lift kitchen bar stool sold as a set of two, and it has the widest seat of any bar stool in our range at 52 cm across by 40 cm deep. A grid-quilted backrest stands 40 cm above the seat — also the tallest we stock — giving it the proportions of a dining chair on an adjustable column. The seat travels from 62 cm to 82 cm and swivels a full 360°, and each stool is rated to 100 kg for normal domestic use. The metal column, weighted trumpet base and ring footrest are matte black on every colour.
It comes in four colours across three upholsteries: grey and orange in a hard-wearing technology fabric, green in velvet, and black in PU leather — a synthetic, not animal hide. Australian kitchens run to two standard heights, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the seat top and the underside of the bench. A kitchen bench of 87–91 cm calls for a seat around 60–66 cm; a bar table of 101–106 cm calls for 72–76 cm. The Cairo's 62–82 cm range covers both. Because the seat is 52 cm wide, allow 65–70 cm of bench per stool rather than the usual 60 cm — a 180 cm bench seats two comfortably, and 240 cm seats three.
The set ships flat-packed in one carton measuring 72 × 39 × 55 cm, and in-home assembly can be added to your order. They carry a 1-year warranty. Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different — we highly recommend you visit the store before the purchase.
