Overview

A quiet, comfortable everyday stool

The Cambridge is the plainest stool in our range, in the best sense — a curved grey fabric back and seat on a dark gas-lift pedestal, without a pattern, a stitch detail or a colour choice to think about. It's the stool most people buy when they just want a comfortable, well-made pair that will sit quietly at any bench. The seat adjusts from 60 cm to 80 cm and swivels a full circle. The price is for two stools.

Curved Fabric Backrest

The backrest curves gently around the sitter without any stitch pattern or quilting — a plain, comfortable shape that reads as understated rather than plain-looking. It stands 31 cm above the seat.

Gas Lift, 60–80 cm

A lever under the seat moves the stool through a 20 cm range, covering both a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench and a 101–106 cm bar. One pair suits the kitchen you have now and the one you might renovate into.

360° Swivel

The seat turns a full circle on the base, so you can slide in and out without dragging the stool across the floor.

Weighted Dark Base & Footrest

A weighted round pedestal base in a dark bronze-black finish keeps the stool planted, with a matching ring footrest on the column — neutral enough to sit in any kitchen without drawing attention to itself.

Bench & bar fit

Will it fit your bench?

This is the question that decides whether a bar stool works or gets sent back, and almost nobody answers it on the product page. There are two standard heights in an Australian kitchen, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. Here's how the Cambridge's 60–80 cm range measures up.

Bar stool fit guide: a kitchen bench 87 to 91 cm high needs a seat height of 60 to 66 cm, a bar table 101 to 106 cm high needs a seat height of 72 to 76 cm, allow 25 to 30 cm between the seat top and the bench underside, and allow about 60 cm of bench width per stool so 120 cm seats two, 180 cm seats three and 240 cm seats four.
60–80 cmSeat height range — covers both a kitchen bench and a bar.
BothSuits 87–91 cm benches and 101–106 cm bar tables.
48 × 42 cmSeat width × depth — a mid-size, easy-fit seat.
  • Measure to the underside of your bench, not the top. Subtract 25–30 cm from that figure and you have the seat height you want. A typical 90 cm kitchen bench has an underside around 88 cm, putting you at roughly 60–63 cm of seat.
  • A standard kitchen bench (87–91 cm): yes. Wound down to its 60 cm minimum, the Cambridge sits comfortably under a standard bench with room to spare.
  • A bar table or raised island (101–106 cm): yes. Wound up to 80 cm it clears a raised bar comfortably — this is where the footrest matters, because your feet won't reach the floor.
  • Allow about 60 cm of bench per stool. The seat is 48 cm wide, in the middle of our range — not the widest, not the narrowest. A 120 cm bench takes two, 180 cm takes three, 240 cm takes four.

Not sure? Measure from your floor to the underside of the bench and call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 — we'll tell you straight away whether the Cambridge suits it, and you can sit on a pair at our Rocklea showroom.

Gas lift & swivel

How the height adjustment works

The Cambridge runs on a gas-lift cylinder, the same mechanism as a good office chair. A lever sits beneath the seat: lift it with your weight off the stool and the seat rises, lift it while seated and it lowers. Release and it locks wherever you've set it. The seat also swivels a full 360° independently of the base.

360°, seat turns independently of the base

Weight capacity

The 100 kg rating is per stool, not per set, and reflects normal domestic use — these aren't commercial-grade stools for a venue. If you need the exact footrest height from the floor or the overall height at the maximum setting, call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor stock piece before you order.

A plain woven fabric is the most forgiving upholstery in our range day to day — no pile to crush, no sheen to scratch, and grey hides light everyday marks better than a pale colour. Colours on screen are approximate — see them in a showroom if the exact shade matters.

Caring for your stools

🧴

Blot spills early

Blot spills straight away with a clean dry cloth rather than rubbing them in. A fabric protector applied when the stools are new is far more effective than treating a stain after the fact.

🧹

Vacuum occasionally

A soft brush attachment or upholstery vacuum head lifts dust and crumbs out of the weave. It's a quick job that keeps the fabric looking fresh between deeper cleans.

🔧

Check the fittings

Any stool that swivels and takes daily weight will loosen slightly over the first few months. Nip the base and seat fittings up after a few weeks, then once or twice a year — it's what stops a wobble developing.

☀️

Keep out of direct sun

Strong sunlight fades fabric over time. If the stools sit at a window-facing bench, close the blind through the harshest part of the day.

Delivery & pickup

Two ways to get them home

Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. Both stools travel flat-packed in a single 52 × 46 × 50 cm carton, so doorways and stairs are rarely an issue; add assembly above if you'd like them built on delivery.

Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. The set ships in one box measuring 52 × 46 × 50 cm, which fits in most car boots or across a back seat. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.

Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.

FAQ

Common questions

Allow 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. In practice that means a seat height of 60–66 cm for a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench, and 72–76 cm for a 101–106 cm bar table. The Cambridge adjusts from 60 cm to 80 cm, so it covers both.

No — the Cambridge is sold in one grey fabric colourway only. If you'd like a colour choice, the Colombo, Cairo and Chroma bar stools each come in two or more.

Two. The Cambridge is sold only as a set of two stools and the price shown covers both.

Yes — the seat turns a full 360° on the base, independently of the gas-lift column, so you can get in and out without moving the stool.

100 kg per stool. That's a rating for normal domestic use — these aren't commercial-grade stools for a venue or a bar that runs all day.

Blot spills straight away rather than rubbing them in, and vacuum occasionally with a soft brush attachment. A fabric protector applied when the stools are new is the single most useful thing you can do.

Yes, but no tools of your own are required — the set ships flat-packed in one carton with the fittings included. If you'd rather not, add stool assembly to your order and our team will build both stools in your home on delivery.

Full details

Cambridge Bar Stool (Set of 2) — full product details

The Cambridge Bar Stool is a plain grey fabric gas-lift kitchen bar stool sold as a set of two, with a curved 31 cm backrest and a 48 cm wide by 42 cm deep seat on a dark bronze-black gas-lift pedestal. The seat adjusts from 60 cm to 80 cm and swivels a full 360°, and each stool is rated to 100 kg for normal domestic use. It's sold in one grey colourway only, without the pattern or armrest variations found elsewhere in the range.

Australian kitchens run to two standard heights, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of the bench. A kitchen bench of 87–91 cm calls for a seat height around 60–66 cm; a bar table or raised island of 101–106 cm calls for 72–76 cm. The Cambridge's 60–80 cm range covers both. Allow about 60 cm of bench width per stool, so a 120 cm bench seats two, 180 cm seats three and 240 cm seats four.

The set ships flat-packed in one carton measuring 52 × 46 × 50 cm and needs no external tools to assemble — the fittings are included, and in-home assembly can be added to your order. It carries a 1-year warranty. Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different — we highly recommend you visit the store before the purchase. Compare it with the Chroma Bar Stool, the Colombo Bar Stool or the wider-seated Cairo Bar Stool, or browse the full bar stool range.
