Overview

Clean lines, easy to wipe down

The Chroma is the most straightforward stool in our range, and that's the point. A one-piece PU leather shell with fan stitching radiating up the backrest, a slim polished chrome column, and a weighted chrome base — no timber, no velvet, nothing that needs special handling. It's the stool for a busy kitchen where things get spilled and wiped up. The seat adjusts from 60 cm to 80 cm and swivels a full circle, in black or grey. The price is for two stools.

Fan-Stitched Shell Back

Stitch lines fan out from the base of the backrest like the ribs of a shell, giving a plain PU surface some shape and shadow. The back is 38 cm tall — proper support rather than a token lip — and curves gently around the sitter.

Wipe-Clean PU Leather

PU leather is a synthetic, not animal hide. It has no pile to crush and no weave for crumbs to sit in, so a damp cloth handles most of what a kitchen bench throws at it — the practical choice if the stools get daily use.

Gas Lift, 60–80 cm

A lever under the seat moves the stool through a 20 cm range, covering both a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench and a 101–106 cm bar. One pair suits the kitchen you have now and the one you might renovate into.

Polished Chrome Throughout

Column, ring footrest and weighted round base are all polished chrome. It's the brightest finish in our bar stool range — pairs naturally with stainless steel appliances and cooler stone benchtops.

Bench & bar fit

Will it fit your bench?

This is the question that decides whether a bar stool works or gets sent back, and almost nobody answers it on the product page. There are two standard heights in an Australian kitchen, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. Here's how the Chroma's 60–80 cm range measures up.

Bar stool fit guide: a kitchen bench 87 to 91 cm high needs a seat height of 60 to 66 cm, a bar table 101 to 106 cm high needs a seat height of 72 to 76 cm, allow 25 to 30 cm between the seat top and the bench underside, and allow about 60 cm of bench width per stool so 120 cm seats two, 180 cm seats three and 240 cm seats four.
60–80 cmSeat height range — covers both a kitchen bench and a bar.
BothSuits 87–91 cm benches and 101–106 cm bar tables.
38 cmSeat depth — the shallowest in our range, so it tucks in tightly.
  • Measure to the underside of your bench, not the top. Subtract 25–30 cm from that figure and you have the seat height you want. A typical 90 cm kitchen bench has an underside around 88 cm, putting you at roughly 60–63 cm of seat.
  • A standard kitchen bench (87–91 cm): yes. Wound down to its 60 cm minimum, the Chroma sits comfortably under a standard bench with room to spare — it reaches the lowest setting of any adjustable stool we sell alongside the Casablanca and Cambridge.
  • A bar table or raised island (101–106 cm): yes, at the top of its range. Wound up to 80 cm it clears a raised bar. If your bar is at the taller end of that band you'll be using the very top of the adjustment, so measure before you order.
  • The shallowest seat in our range, at 38 cm deep. That's a genuine advantage in a tight galley kitchen or a narrow walkway — the stools take up less floor when pushed in. It also means less thigh support than a deeper seat like the Columbia's 43 cm, so if you sit for long stretches rather than perching, the deeper stools are worth comparing.
  • Allow about 60 cm of bench per stool. The seat is 46 cm wide, and the extra keeps elbows apart. A 120 cm bench takes two, 180 cm takes three, 240 cm takes four. Leave the end stool about 30 cm clear of a wall so it can still swivel.

Not sure? Measure from your floor to the underside of the bench and call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 — we'll tell you straight away whether the Chroma suits it, and you can sit on a pair at our Rocklea showroom.

Gas lift & swivel

How the height adjustment works

The Chroma runs on a gas-lift cylinder, the same mechanism as a good office chair. A lever sits beneath the seat: lift it with your weight off the stool and the seat rises, lift it while seated and it lowers. Release and it locks wherever you've set it. The seat also swivels a full 360° independently of the base.

360°, seat turns independently of the base
Footrest

Base

Weight capacity

The 100 kg rating is per stool, not per set, and reflects normal domestic use — these aren't commercial-grade stools for a venue. If you need the exact footrest height from the floor or the overall height at the maximum setting, call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor stock piece before you order.

PU leather is synthetic, not animal hide. It's the easiest surface in our range to keep clean and it doesn't mark the way velvet does — but unlike genuine hide it won't develop a patina, and it will crack if it's allowed to dry out, so an occasional conditioning is worth the few minutes. Colours on screen are approximate — see them in a showroom if the exact shade matters.

Caring for your stools

🧽

Wipe, don't scrub

A soft damp cloth handles the PU leather — wipe spills as they happen rather than letting them sit. Skip solvents and abrasive cleaners, which strip the surface and cause it to crack over time.

Buff the chrome dry

Chrome shows fingerprints and water spots more than a matte finish, especially on the base where shoes reach. A dry soft cloth restores it in seconds; avoid abrasive cleaners, which leave permanent fine scratches.

🔧

Check the fittings

Any stool that swivels and takes daily weight will loosen slightly over the first few months. Nip the base and seat fittings up after a few weeks, then once or twice a year — it's what stops a wobble developing.

☀️

Keep out of direct sun

Strong sunlight hardens PU leather and will eventually make it brittle. If the stools sit at a window-facing bench, close the blind through the harshest part of the day.

Delivery & pickup

Two ways to get them home

Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. Both stools travel flat-packed in a single 54 × 47 × 47 cm carton — the most compact set in our range — so doorways and stairs are rarely an issue; add assembly above if you'd like them built on delivery.

Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. The set ships in one compact box measuring 54 × 47 × 47 cm, which fits in most car boots. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.

Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.

FAQ

Common questions

Allow 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. In practice that means a seat height of 60–66 cm for a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench, and 72–76 cm for a 101–106 cm bar table. The Chroma adjusts from 60 cm to 80 cm, so it covers both.

It depends how you use them. At 38 cm the Chroma has the shallowest seat in our range, which is an advantage in a narrow kitchen or walkway because the stools take up less floor. For long sittings you'll get more thigh support from a deeper seat — the Columbia and Colombo are both 43 cm — so it's worth comparing if the stools are where people linger rather than perch.

Two. The Chroma is sold only as a set of two stools and the price shown covers both. Both stools in a set are the same colour.

No — it's PU leather, a synthetic upholstery, not animal hide. It wipes clean easily, which suits a kitchen bench where food is handled.

Yes — the seat turns a full 360° on the base, independently of the gas-lift column, so you can get in and out without moving the stool.

100 kg per stool. That's a rating for normal domestic use — these aren't commercial-grade stools for a venue or a bar that runs all day.

Polished chrome shows fingerprints and water spots more readily than a matte black finish, particularly on the base where shoes reach. A dry soft cloth buffs it back in seconds. If you'd rather not think about it, the matte black bases on the Colombo or Cairo are more forgiving.

Yes, but no tools of your own are required — the set ships flat-packed in one carton with the fittings included. If you'd rather not, add stool assembly to your order and our team will build both stools in your home on delivery.

Full details

Chroma Bar Stool (Set of 2) — full product details

The Chroma Bar Stool is a PU leather gas-lift kitchen bar stool sold as a set of two, built around a one-piece shell seat with fan stitching radiating up a 38 cm backrest. The seat measures 46 cm wide by 38 cm deep — the shallowest in our range — adjusts from 60 cm to 80 cm and swivels a full 360°. Each stool is rated to 100 kg for normal domestic use. Column, ring footrest and weighted round base are polished chrome on both the black and grey options.

Australian kitchens run to two standard heights, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of the bench. A kitchen bench of 87–91 cm calls for a seat height around 60–66 cm; a bar table or raised island of 101–106 cm calls for 72–76 cm. The Chroma's 60–80 cm range covers both, reaching as low as any adjustable stool we sell. Its 38 cm seat depth is a real advantage in a narrow galley kitchen or a tight walkway, though a deeper seat such as the Columbia's 43 cm gives more thigh support if people sit for long stretches. Allow about 60 cm of bench width per stool, so a 120 cm bench seats two, 180 cm seats three and 240 cm seats four.

The set ships flat-packed in one carton measuring 54 × 47 × 47 cm — the most compact set in our bar stool range — and needs no external tools to assemble, with in-home assembly available as an add-on. It carries a 1-year warranty. PU leather is a synthetic upholstery, not animal hide; it wipes clean readily but benefits from occasional conditioning so it doesn't dry out. Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different — we highly recommend you visit the store before the purchase.
