Overview
Mid-century curves, modern mechanism
The Canada is the most distinctive shape in our bar stool range. A curved walnut-tone bentwood shell wraps the seat and back, with padded PU leather cushioning set into it — a mid-century silhouette on a modern gas-lift pedestal. Choose black or grey PU; the timber-tone shell and matte black base stay the same on both. The seat raises and lowers on a gas lift and swivels a full circle. The price is for two stools.
Curved Bentwood Shell
The seat and backrest are formed from a single curved shell in a warm walnut tone, visible around the edge of the upholstery and across the whole of the back. It's what gives the Canada its mid-century look and sets it apart from the fully upholstered stools in the range.
Padded PU Leather
The seat and back pads are PU leather — a synthetic, not animal hide — in black or grey. It's the easiest surface in the range to wipe down, which is exactly what you want on a stool that lives at a kitchen bench where food is handled.
Gas Lift & Swivel
A lever under the seat raises and lowers the stool, and the seat turns a full 360° on the base so you can get in and out without dragging it across the floor. Height adjustment means one pair can suit a kitchen bench or a taller bar.
Matte Black Base & Footrest
A weighted round pedestal base in matte black keeps the stool planted, with a matching ring footrest on the column. The dark base grounds the warm timber shell rather than competing with it.
Bench & bar fit
Will it fit your bench?
This is the question that decides whether a bar stool works or gets sent back. There are two standard heights in an Australian kitchen, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. The guide below is the rule for any stool — and we'll happily measure this one against your kitchen before you order.
- Measure to the underside of your bench, not the top. Subtract 25–30 cm from that figure and you have the seat height you want. A typical 90 cm kitchen bench has an underside around 88 cm, putting you at roughly 60–63 cm of seat.
- A standard kitchen bench is 87–91 cm and suits a seat height of about 60–66 cm. A bar table or raised island is 101–106 cm and suits about 72–76 cm.
- A gas-lift stool travels across both bands. The Canada is height adjustable, so a single pair can serve a standard bench now and a taller bar later — which is the main practical advantage of an adjustable stool over a fixed-height one.
- Allow about 60 cm of bench width per stool — seat width plus elbow room. On that basis a 120 cm bench takes two, 180 cm takes three and 240 cm takes four. Keep the end stool about 30 cm clear of a wall or return so it can still swivel out.
We'll check the exact fit for you. The published measurements for this particular model are still being confirmed with our supplier, so rather than guess we'd rather measure it properly. Call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 with your bench height — floor to the underside of the benchtop — and we'll measure a Canada on the floor at Rocklea and tell you exactly how it sits. You're also welcome to come and sit on a pair.
Gas lift & swivel
How the height adjustment works
The Canada runs on a gas-lift cylinder, the same mechanism as a good office chair. A lever sits beneath the seat: lift it with your weight off the stool and the seat rises, lift it while seated and it lowers. Release and it locks wherever you've set it. The seat also swivels a full 360° independently of the base.
- Adjustment
- Gas lift — height adjustable
- Swivel
- 360°, seat turns independently of the base
- Footrest
- Fixed ring footrest on the column, matte black
- Base
- Weighted round pedestal base in matte black — both colours
- Weight capacity
- 100 kg per stool
The 100 kg rating is per stool, not per set, and reflects normal domestic use — these aren't commercial-grade stools for a venue. The exact travel of the gas lift on this model is being confirmed with our supplier; call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor piece for you.
Dimensions
Measurements
We'd rather tell you nothing than tell you something wrong, so we haven't published figures for the Canada until we've verified them. If you need the seat height range, seat size or carton dimensions before you order, call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 — we hold these at our Rocklea showroom and will measure one on the floor while you're on the phone.
What we can confirm: it's a gas-lift, height-adjustable stool with a 360° swivel seat, rated to 100 kg per stool, upholstered in PU leather over a curved walnut-tone bentwood shell, on a matte black pedestal base. It is sold as a set of two and carries a 1-year warranty.
Materials & care
PU leather on a bentwood shell
- Upholstery
- PU leather — a faux leather, not animal hide — in black or grey
- Shell
- Curved bentwood in a warm walnut tone, framing the seat and back
- Frame & base
- Metal column and weighted round pedestal base, matte black on both colours
- Colours
- Black, Grey
- Warranty
- 1 year
The black and grey options refer to the PU leather padding only — the walnut-tone shell and the matte black base are the same on both. PU leather is synthetic: it's the easiest surface in our range to wipe clean, but unlike genuine hide it doesn't develop a patina and it will crack if it's allowed to dry out, so the occasional conditioning matters. Colours on screen are approximate — see them in a showroom if the exact shade matters.
Caring for your stools
Wipe, don't scrub
A soft damp cloth handles the PU leather — wipe spills as they happen rather than letting them sit. Skip solvents and abrasive cleaners, which strip the surface and cause it to crack over time.
Dust the timber shell
The bentwood shell just needs a dry or barely damp cloth. Don't leave water sitting on it, and avoid furniture sprays that build up a film on the finish.
Check the fittings
Any stool that swivels and takes daily weight will loosen slightly over the first few months. Nip the base and seat fittings up after a few weeks, then once or twice a year — it's what stops a wobble developing.
Keep out of direct sun
Strong sunlight hardens PU leather and fades timber finishes. If the stools sit at a window-facing bench, close the blind through the harshest part of the day.

FAQ
Common questions
We're still confirming the published figures for this model with our supplier, and we'd rather not print a number we haven't verified. Call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 — we stock the Canada at Rocklea and will measure one on the floor while you're on the phone, including the seat height range and the carton size.
Allow 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your bench. In practice that means a seat height of about 60–66 cm for a standard 87–91 cm kitchen bench, and about 72–76 cm for a 101–106 cm bar table. The Canada is gas-lift adjustable, so it travels across a range rather than sitting at one fixed height — call us and we'll confirm it against your bench.
Two. The Canada is sold only as a set of two stools and the price shown covers both. Both stools in a set are the same colour.
No — it's PU leather, a synthetic upholstery, not animal hide. It wipes clean easily, which suits a kitchen bench where food is handled.
Only the PU leather padding. The curved walnut-tone bentwood shell and the matte black pedestal base are identical on both — so the choice is purely the colour of the seat and back cushioning.
Yes — the seat turns a full 360° on the base, independently of the gas-lift column, so you can get in and out without moving the stool.
100 kg per stool. That's a rating for normal domestic use — these aren't commercial-grade stools for a venue or a bar that runs all day.
Yes — they arrive flat-packed with the fittings included. If you'd rather not build them, add stool assembly to your order and our team will assemble both stools in your home on delivery.
Full details
Canada Bar Stool (Set of 2) — full product details
Design & materials
The Canada Bar Stool is a gas-lift kitchen bar stool sold as a set of two, and the most distinctive shape in our range: a curved bentwood shell in a warm walnut tone wraps the seat and back, with padded PU leather set into it in either black or grey. The shell and the matte black pedestal base are the same on both colours — the choice affects only the cushioning.
The seat raises and lowers on a gas lift and swivels a full 360°, and each stool is rated to 100 kg for normal domestic use.
Fit & sizing
Australian kitchens run to two standard heights, and one rule connects them to a stool: leave 25–30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of the bench. A kitchen bench of 87–91 cm calls for a seat height around 60–66 cm; a bar table or raised island of 101–106 cm calls for 72–76 cm.
Because the Canada is height adjustable rather than fixed, a single pair can serve a standard bench now and a taller bar later. As a rule of thumb allow about 60 cm of bench width per stool, so a 120 cm bench seats two, 180 cm seats three and 240 cm seats four.
Range & where to see it
The Canada carries a 1-year warranty. The published measurements for this model are still being confirmed with our supplier, and we would rather leave a figure off the page than print one we haven't verified. We stock the Canada at our Rocklea showroom — call our team on 07 3161 5415 with your bench height and we will measure one on the floor and confirm the fit before you order.
PU leather is a synthetic upholstery, not animal hide; it wipes clean readily but benefits from occasional conditioning so it doesn't dry out. Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different — we highly recommend you visit the store before the purchase. Compare it with the Colombo Bar Stool, the wider-seated Cairo Bar Stool or the Columbia Bar Stool, or browse the full bar stool range. See them in person at any of our five A2Z Furniture showrooms: Rocklea, Virginia, Bundall (Gold Coast), North Ipswich and Beenleigh.
