The Darwin Chair is a clean-lined solid timber dining chair on a rubberwood and MDF frame, sold per chair in two finishes — Dirty Oak or Black. The bare timber seat sits at a 44 cm seat height, which lands right in the ideal band for Australian dining tables, so it tucks under a standard 71–76 cm table with proper knee room. At $69 a chair it's an easy way to seat four or six without buying a whole new dining set, and it's supplied with no external tools needed for assembly.
Solid Timber Seat & Back
The seat and backrest are bare rubberwood and MDF — no upholstery, padding or fabric to wear out, mark or fade. A clean, honest timber chair that wipes down in seconds.
Rubberwood & MDF Frame
The frame combines rubberwood — a dense plantation hardwood — with an MDF seat and back for a stable, wobble-free footing that stands up to being dragged out and pushed in every day.
Two Finishes

A dining chair is bought blind more often than any other seat — most stores don't even tell you the seat height. Two checks settle it: whether the seat height suits your table, and how many chairs your table can actually take. Here's how the Darwin's 42 × 40 cm footprint and 44 cm seat measure up against the Australian rules of thumb.
- Check your table height first. Measure floor to tabletop. The rule is 25–30 cm between the seat and the table's underside for knee room. With a 44 cm seat, the Darwin sits comfortably in that band under any standard 71–76 cm Australian dining table.
- Count 60 cm of table edge per chair. At 42 cm wide the Darwin fits the standard spacing: a 110–120 cm table takes four, a 150 cm table takes four to six, and a 180–200 cm table seats six, or eight with the ends in use. Buying for a six-seater? You need six chairs — set the quantity above.
- No arms to catch the apron. Armchairs often can't tuck under the table's edge rail. The Darwin is armless, so it slides fully under the table between meals — worth knowing in a dining room where every centimetre of walkway counts.
- Depth check for tight rooms. The chair is 40 cm deep, so pulled out for seating it needs roughly 90 cm of clear floor behind the table edge — the same clearance rule as the table itself.

What it pairs with
The Darwin's simple timber silhouette works across most table styles. In Black it sharpens up a timber table like the Dell or Dalby; Dirty Oak leans warmer and sits naturally with lighter timber and round tables like the Daliya. Mixing is fine — a common trick is four matching chairs down the sides and two contrasting carvers at the ends. Whichever way you go, keep the colours to two: one for the table, one for the chairs.

The Darwin has no fabric or PU covering to clean or wear out — it's a solid timber chair through and through. Finish colours on screen are approximate; we recommend seeing the finishes in a showroom before you buy.
Caring for your chairs
Wipe clean after meals
A damp cloth is all the bare timber seat needs — spills and sauce wipe straight off. Dry the surface afterwards and skip harsh solvents or abrasive scourers.
Dust regularly
A dry or lightly damp cloth over the frame keeps the timber grain and finish looking fresh — no special polish needed.
Keep out of direct sun
Strong direct sunlight can fade and dry timber finishes over time. Position away from harsh sun, or close curtains during the brightest hours.

Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. Chairs travel in a compact 95 x 48 x 15 cm carton, so stairs and doorways are rarely a problem.
