A sofa you can judge fairly well by eye; a recliner is a mechanism and an ergonomic fit as much as a look — the recline angle, footrest height, lumbar support and seat depth either suit your body or they don't, and a photo won't tell you which. Why a recliner is worth trying in person
You can do a lot of useful research online — comparing mechanisms, materials and sizes — but a recliner has a few things that only reveal themselves when you sit down. It's worth making the trip to test these:
- The recline itself. How far it goes, how smoothly it moves, and whether the reclined position actually supports your back and neck or leaves a gap. Manual and electric recliners feel quite different to operate — worth trying both.
- The footrest and leg support. A footrest that stops short of your heels, or sits too high, undoes the comfort. You only know it fits your leg length by extending it.
- Seat depth and back height for your body. A seat that's too deep leaves shorter sitters unsupported; a low back doesn't suit taller frames. Fit is personal, which is the whole point of sitting in it.
- The upholstery in the flesh. How genuine leather, Air Leather or fabric actually feels — its texture, give and temperature — is hard to judge from a screen.

What to look for in a recliner retailer
Once you know you want to try before you buy, not all furniture stores are equally set up for it. A few things separate a retailer worth visiting:
- Recliners you can actually sit in. A wall of catalogue images isn't the same as a floor with chairs to test. Look for somewhere with a genuine selection on display.
- Staff who understand the mechanisms. Single-motor versus dual-motor, rocking versus swivel, the difference between leather grades — good salespeople can explain these and steer you to the right chair rather than the dearest one.
- Clear delivery and assembly. A recliner is heavy and, for electric models, needs setting up correctly. Know what delivery costs to your postcode and whether assembly is offered before you buy.
- Warranty and after-sales you can find. Mechanisms and motors are the parts most likely to need support down the track. A retailer that's upfront about warranty and easy to contact afterwards is worth more than a small saving.
- A local presence. A nearby showroom makes it easier to see the chair, ask questions and sort anything out later — rather than dealing with a faceless warehouse interstate.

Buying a recliner isn't an either/or between the showroom and the website. Most people do a bit of each, and our setup is built for that. When you're ready, order whichever way suits you — in the showroom with a salesperson, or online from home — and have it delivered or set aside for pickup.
