Overview
A low-profile Nelson dining chair in grey fabric and Brushed Smoke timber
The Nelson Dining Chair pairs a generously padded, fully upholstered grey-fabric seat and backrest with a frame built from a blend of solid acacia wood and high-quality engineered wood, finished in the Nelson range's signature Brushed Smoke tone. At 86 cm overall it's the lowest-profile chair in our dining chair range — a clean parsons-style silhouette with an ergonomically angled backrest, well suited to a relaxed coastal aesthetic and to spaces where a chunkier, taller chair would feel heavy. It's the direct dining companion to the rest of the Nelson living-room range, and pairs naturally with the matching Nelson Buffet Table.
Padded Grey Fabric Upholstery
The seat and backrest are generously padded and wrapped in a textured grey fabric — soft and breathable for everyday use, with a neutral colour that pairs comfortably with most dining table finishes.
Ergonomic Angled Backrest
The padded backrest is angled to support good posture across long meals — designed to keep diners comfortable through dinner parties and lingering conversations.
Acacia & Engineered Wood, Brushed Smoke
The frame and legs are a blend of solid acacia wood and engineered wood, finished in the Nelson range's signature Brushed Smoke tone — the same finish carried across the whole Nelson range.
Legs Hand-Attach — No Tools Needed
The legs attach to the upholstered seat with the included hardware, by hand — no screwdriver or drill required. A few minutes per chair and it's ready to use.
Will it fit?
Will it fit your table — and how many do you need?
A dining chair is bought blind more often than any other seat — most stores don't even tell you the seat height. Our supplier spec doesn't break the Nelson's 86 cm overall height into a separate seat-height figure, so rather than guess we'll give you the general Australian sizing rules and the honest number we do have: at 86 cm overall, the Nelson sits notably lower than most dining chairs in our range, which is why it suits a relaxed, low-key look. If getting the exact seat height right matters for your table, call our showroom team and we'll measure a floor piece for you.
- Check your table height first. A separate seat-height figure isn't on our supplier spec for the Nelson, so we can't quote the exact knee-room clearance the way we can for chairs with a published seat height. As a general Australian rule, most dining tables sit 71–76 cm off the floor and most dining chairs give 25–30 cm of knee room under that. Given the Nelson's notably low 86 cm overall height, we'd recommend checking the fit against your table before ordering — call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 or try the chair in person.
- Count 60 cm of table edge per chair. At 50 cm wide the Nelson comfortably fits the standard spacing: a 120–150 cm table takes four, and a 180–200 cm table seats six. Buying for a six-seater? You need six chairs — set the quantity above.
- The low profile is a feature, not a compromise. At 86 cm overall, the Nelson is the lowest chair in our whole dining-chair range — it tucks neatly under low benches and low-set tables and suits a relaxed, coastal aesthetic rather than a more formal, upright dining look.
- Depth check for tight rooms. The chair is 41 cm deep, so pulled out for seating it needs roughly 90 cm of clear floor behind the table edge — the same clearance rule as the table itself.
Not sure? Measure your table height and call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 — we'll check the fit against your table before you order, and you can try the Nelson in person in our showrooms.

Styling
What it pairs with
The Nelson's grey fabric and Brushed Smoke frame are built to match the rest of the Nelson range — it's the direct dining companion to the Nelson Buffet Table, and if you're starting a dining room from scratch, the Nelson 7 Piece Dining Set pairs a matching Nelson-style table with six of these chairs in one set. There's no standalone Nelson dining table in our range yet, so outside the Nelson set a timber table like the Dell works well — the cool grey fabric grounds a lighter timber table with a useful neutral contrast, and the low, relaxed silhouette suits coastal and Hamptons-style dining rooms best.
Materials & care
Grey fabric over an acacia & engineered wood frame
- Frame & legs
- Acacia wood & engineered wood blend, Brushed Smoke finish
- Seat & backrest
- Generously padded, grey fabric upholstery
- Finish
- Brushed Smoke — a soft, weathered light-brown & cream coastal tone
- Warranty
- 1 year
Acacia is a dense hardwood known for natural grain variation, so every chair looks slightly different; blending it with engineered wood adds dimensional stability that helps the frame resist warping over years of regular use. Swatch colours on screen are approximate; we recommend seeing the finish in a showroom before you buy.
Caring for your chairs
Vacuum fabric regularly
Vacuum the upholstered seat and backrest regularly using an upholstery attachment to lift dust, crumbs and surface debris before it works its way into the weave.
Blot spills immediately
Blot spills with a clean, dry cloth as soon as they happen — never rub. Work from the outside of the spill inward, and let the fabric air-dry fully before sitting on it again.
Dust the timber legs
Wipe the acacia legs weekly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or wet cloths that can damage the Brushed Smoke finish.
Keep out of direct sun
Position away from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent the fabric from fading and to keep the Brushed Smoke finish from shifting in tone over time.
What's in the box
Legs hand-attach — no tools required
Each Nelson chair arrives with the upholstered seat and back already made up — some quick assembly is still needed, though: you attach the legs to the seat with the included hardware, by hand, no screwdriver or drill required. That makes it a couple of minutes per chair, not a flat-pack build — but it's worth knowing this is different from the rest of the Nelson range (TV Unit, Coffee Table, Console Table, Bookshelf, Buffet Table), which all arrive fully pre-assembled with nothing to do.

Delivery & pickup
Two ways to get them home
Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. Chairs travel in compact cartons with the legs unattached, so stairs and doorways are rarely a problem — you'll hand-fit the legs with the included hardware once they arrive.
Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. Chair cartons are compact — a set of four typically fits in a hatchback, six in a wagon or SUV. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.
Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.

FAQ
Common questions
Our supplier spec doesn't give a separate seat-height figure for the Nelson — only the 86 cm overall height, which is the lowest of any chair in our dining chair range. If exact seat height matters for your table, call our showroom team on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor piece before you order.
One chair. Set the quantity to match your table — four for a 120–150 cm table, six for a 150–200 cm table. Ordering singles also means you can replace or add a chair later without buying a whole set.
The frame and legs are a blend of solid acacia wood and high-quality engineered wood, finished in the Nelson range's signature Brushed Smoke tone. The hybrid construction gives real acacia grain character while adding dimensional stability that helps the chair resist warping over years of use.
Some quick assembly is required — you attach the legs to the upholstered seat with the included hardware, by hand. No screwdriver, drill or other tools are needed, and it only takes a few minutes per chair. This is different to the rest of the Nelson range, which arrives fully pre-assembled.
Vacuum the upholstery regularly with an upholstery attachment, and blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — never rub. Let the fabric air-dry fully before sitting on it again, and keep the chair out of prolonged direct sunlight to avoid fading.
A rated weight capacity isn't on our supplier spec sheet, so we won't quote a number we can't stand behind. It's built for everyday family dining. If capacity is a deciding factor for you, call us on 07 3161 5415 and we'll help before you order.
It's designed as the dining companion to the rest of the Nelson range — pairs directly with the Nelson Buffet Table, and comes bundled with a matching table in the Nelson 7 Piece Dining Set. Outside the Nelson range, its cool grey fabric grounds most timber dining tables in our range with a neutral contrast.
Full details
Nelson Dining Chair — full product details
The Nelson Dining Chair is a fully upholstered dining chair with a generously padded grey fabric seat and backrest, on a frame built from a blend of solid acacia wood and high-quality engineered wood, finished in the Nelson range's signature Brushed Smoke tone. It measures 50 cm wide, 41 cm deep and 86 cm tall — the lowest overall height of any chair in our dining chair range — with a clean parsons-style silhouette and an ergonomically angled backrest designed to keep diners comfortable through long meals.
A separate seat-height figure isn't on our supplier spec, so rather than invent one we've given the general Australian sizing rules in the "Will it fit?" section above and flagged that the Nelson's notably low 86 cm profile makes it worth checking against your own table. At 50 cm wide it fits the standard 60 cm of table edge per diner — four chairs around a 120–150 cm table, six around a 150–200 cm table.
Some quick assembly is required: the legs attach to the upholstered seat with the included hardware, by hand — no tools needed, just a few minutes per chair. This differs from the rest of the Nelson range (TV Unit, Coffee Table, Console Table, Bookshelf, Buffet Table), which all arrive fully pre-assembled. It carries a 1-year warranty. Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different — we highly recommend you visit the store before the purchase. Pair it with the Nelson Buffet Table, the Nelson 7 Piece Dining Set, or a table like the Dell, or browse all dining chairs. See it in person at any of our five A2Z Furniture showrooms: Rocklea, Virginia, Bundall (Gold Coast), North Ipswich and Beenleigh.
