Overview
A tall coastal bookshelf with hidden drawer storage
The Nelson Bookshelf is a tall, single-bay storage piece built from a blend of solid acacia wood and engineered wood, finished in the Nelson range's signature Brushed Smoke tone — a soft, weathered light-brown-and-cream finish. Five open shelves carry the books and the display pieces; two centre drawers hide the small stuff that doesn't belong on show. It uses vertical wall space instead of floor space, and it arrives fully pre-assembled — position it, anchor it, load it up.
Five Shelves + Two Drawers
Five open shelves for books, decor and framed photos, with two centre drawers for the chargers, stationery and small clutter that would otherwise spoil the display. The drawer tier splits the bay into styled zones naturally.
Acacia + Engineered Wood Build
Solid acacia panels — natural grain, visible knots, real character — blended with engineered wood for dimensional stability, which matters on a tall piece carrying weight across multiple shelves. It's a blend, and we say so plainly.
Tall Single-Bay Footprint
Vertical storage that doesn't crowd the floor — suits living-room feature walls, home offices, study corners and bedrooms where floor space is at a premium.
Arrives Pre-Assembled
No flat-pack, no allen keys, no missing screws. Carry it in, anchor it to the wall, and start loading your books straight away.
Shelves & loading
What fits, and how to load it
A bookshelf lives or dies on its shelves, so here's the honest guide. The five open shelves take everything from paperback rows to coffee-table books and styled decor; the two centre drawers swallow the small items. Exact shelf heights are being confirmed with the supplier — call us on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor piece against whatever you need to fit, from A4 binders to vinyl records.
- Heavy items live low. Put book stacks, boxed sets and anything dense on the lower shelves — it keeps the unit stable and it looks better too.
- Spread the weight. Distribute heavier items evenly across each shelf rather than concentrating them at one end. If you're unsure whether a load is sensible, ask us.
- Style the upper shelves lighter. Decor, plants, framed photos and single-row books suit the top — roughly two-thirds books to one-third objects reads best.
- Anchor before you load. Fit the wall anchor first, then fill the shelves — never the other way around.
Like all tall storage furniture, the Nelson Bookshelf must be secured to the wall before use. Anchoring hardware is inexpensive, available from any hardware store, and takes only minutes to fit — use fixings suited to your wall type (plasterboard anchors, or screw into a stud where you can).
- ALWAYS secure this furniture to the wall with an anchor device.
- NEVER allow children to stand, climb or hang on drawers, doors or shelves.
- NEVER open more than one drawer at a time.
- Place heavy items down low.
- NEVER place a television on this furniture.
Wall-anchoring hardware is inexpensive and takes only minutes to fit. If you're unsure how to anchor the unit, our showroom team can point you to a suitable anchor kit — call 07 3161 5415.

Styling
Style your shelves like a stylist would
The formula that works: about two-thirds books, one-third breathing room — decor, plants, a framed photo. Stack a few books horizontally to break the vertical rhythm and double as bookends. Keep the heaviest, densest rows low (stability and looks agree on this one). The Brushed Smoke palette suits coastal and beach-house schemes — woven baskets, whitewashed ceramics, driftwood tones and greenery all belong here; the two drawers keep the clutter out of the picture entirely.
Materials & care
Acacia and engineered wood in Brushed Smoke
- Construction
- Blend of solid acacia wood and engineered wood — not all-solid, and we say so plainly
- Finish
- Brushed Smoke — soft, weathered light-brown-and-cream; refreshable with timber wax or polish
- Shelves
- 5 open
- Drawers
- 2, centre
The hybrid build pairs acacia's natural grain character — every piece slightly different — with engineered wood's dimensional stability, which matters on a tall piece that carries weight across multiple shelves. The same Brushed Smoke finish runs across the whole Nelson range.
Caring for your bookshelf
Dust regularly
Open shelves collect dust faster than closed cabinetry — a soft, dry microfibre cloth across the shelves, drawer fronts and frame weekly keeps the grain at its best.
Mind the shelf loading
Distribute heavier items like book stacks evenly across the shelves rather than concentrating them in one section, and avoid overloading any single shelf.
Wipe spills promptly
A slightly damp cloth, then dry immediately — even brief soaking can mark timber and engineered wood alike.
Keep out of direct sun
UV can lighten the Brushed Smoke tone or fade unevenly — particularly where books shield parts of a shelf. Place away from prolonged direct sun.

Delivery & pickup
Two ways to get it home
Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. Because the bookshelf arrives pre-assembled and tall, check your doorway heights and the route to its wall before ordering.
Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. It travels pre-assembled and tall — a van or ute is the right vehicle, and bring a second pair of hands. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.
Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.

FAQ
Common questions
It's a blend — solid acacia wood panels paired with high-quality engineered wood, and we'd rather say that plainly than stretch it. The acacia brings natural grain, knots and character; the engineered wood adds the dimensional stability a tall, weight-carrying piece needs.
Yes — always. Tall bookcases are the classic furniture-tipover hazard, and anchoring is required before use, especially in homes with young children. The hardware is inexpensive, available at any hardware store, and takes minutes to fit — use fixings suited to your wall type, and anchor it before you load the shelves. Our showroom team can point you to a suitable kit on 07 3161 5415.
No — it arrives fully pre-assembled. No flat-pack, no allen keys, no missing screws. Carry it in, anchor it to the wall, and start loading your books.
Exact shelf heights are being confirmed with the supplier. If you have something specific to fit — A4 binders, vinyl records, oversized art books — call us on 07 3161 5415 and we'll measure a floor piece against it before you order.
It's built for real use — full rows of books included — with the acacia-and-engineered-wood construction chosen for exactly that job. We don't quote a per-shelf kilogram figure we haven't verified; the honest guidance is to spread weight evenly, keep the heaviest items on the lower shelves, and call us if you're planning something unusually heavy.
Yes — the bookshelf is sold on its own, but the Nelson range also includes the matching Console Table, TV Unit, Coffee Table, Dining Chair and Buffet, all in the same Brushed Smoke finish. See "Complete the look" above.
Full details
Nelson Bookshelf — full product details
The Nelson Bookshelf is a tall, single-bay bookcase built from a blend of solid acacia wood and high-quality engineered wood, finished in the Nelson range's signature Brushed Smoke tone — a soft, weathered light-brown-and-cream finish with coastal character. Five open shelves display books, decor and framed photos, while two centre drawers add concealed storage for the smaller everyday items that don't belong on show. It arrives fully pre-assembled, and like all tall shelving units it must be anchored to the wall before use.
The tall single-bay silhouette makes this bookshelf and shelving unit practical in tight spaces — a living-room feature wall that needs vertical interest, a home office or study corner that needs reference storage, or a bedroom where it holds books, candles and styled objects without crowding the floor. The Brushed Smoke palette pairs with whitewashed walls, soft blue and sandy-neutral upholstery, and woven jute and seagrass textures — Hamptons coastal, beach-house and modern-coastal interiors all suit it.
Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different — we highly recommend you visit the store before the purchase. The bookshelf is part of the wider Nelson range alongside the matching Nelson Console Table, Nelson TV Unit and Nelson Coffee Table, with the Nelson Dining Chair and Buffet carrying the same finish into the dining room. See it in person at any of our five A2Z Furniture showrooms: Rocklea, Virginia, Bundall (Gold Coast), North Ipswich and Beenleigh.
