Overview

Three-section storage with the Mernda's signature blue

The Mernda Sideboard takes the range's dark-timber-and-channelled-blue design language and applies it to a proper 150 cm three-section storage piece. Three vertical-channelled deep blue PU front panels sit recessed into a warm brown timber-look frame, with slim splayed matte black metal feet lifting the body off the floor for a mid-century-inspired silhouette. At 78 cm, the top sits at true console-and-sideboard height — for a lamp, decanters, photo frames, or the keys-and-mail tray by the door.

Generous Three-Section Storage

The full 150 cm length divides into three compartments, each tall enough for dinnerware stacks, folded table linens, board games, books or media gear — behind closed fronts, so the visible side of the room stays uncluttered.

Channelled Blue PU Fronts

Vertical channels run top-to-bottom across each panel, catching light differently through the day. The blue sits in a deep, slightly muted register — a deliberate colour choice that still coexists with grey sofas, navy accents and warm timber.

Splayed Black Metal Feet

Slim angled feet in matte black raise the body off the floor — a lighter, mid-century-influenced stance, and easy vacuum access underneath.

Goes Just About Anywhere

Dining-room sideboard, living-room console behind a sofa, entryway piece for keys and mail, or a low media console under a wall-mounted TV — the 150 × 40 × 78 cm proportions work in all four roles.

Sizing guide

Will it fit your space?

Consoles and sideboards live in walkways, so fit matters more than it does for most furniture. Four quick checks before you buy — and an honest read on where the Mernda's 150 × 40 cm footprint belongs.

Console table sizing guide: keep at least 90 cm of clear walkway past the console, start the console beyond the front door's swing arc, span about two-thirds of the wall with 20 to 30 cm breathing room each side, and behind a sofa keep the top level with or slightly below the backrest.
  • Keep 90 cm of clear walkway. Measure your hall's width and subtract the sideboard's 40 cm depth — you want at least 90 cm of clear passage left.
  • The front-door test. Open your front door fully and mark where the handle's swing arc ends — the sideboard should start beyond that point.
  • Two-thirds of the wall. At 150 cm long, the Mernda looks right on a wall of roughly 2 to 2.3 metres, with 20–30 cm of breathing room each end.
  • Behind a sofa, match the back. At 78 cm high, check your sofa's backrest — the Mernda suits mid-to-high-backed sofas where the top sits level with or just below the backrest.

The Mernda's fit, honestly: at 40 cm deep it sits at the top of the console depth range — ideal in a hallway 130 cm or wider, an open-plan living area, a dining room, or a media room. In a genuinely narrow hall (under about 120 cm), a slimmer console will serve you better — browse the full console range. Its 78 cm height sits comfortably in the 75–90 cm console band.

Storage

Three compartments behind closed fronts

Sideboards earn their place by storing things, and the Mernda's three-section configuration delivers usable capacity rather than token compartments. Each of the three sections is tall enough for dinnerware stacks, neatly-folded table linens, board games, books or media gear — behind the channelled PU fronts, so the room stays visually calm while the storage does the work.

Styling

Style it in three moves

The easiest styling formula for a long surface like this is the rule of three: one tall piece (a lamp or a vase at one end), one low, wide piece (a bowl or tray — the landing spot for keys and mail in an entry, a serving board in a dining room), and one personal touch (a framed photo, a candle, a small stack of books). The Mernda's brown-and-blue palette sits happily with grey sofas, navy accents and warm timber — keep the top sparse so the channelled fronts stay the focal point.

Particleboard is engineered to stay flat and stable through seasonal changes, with the finish doing the visual work — the timber-look body, PU front detail and metal feet give the Mernda its mid-century character at a far more accessible price than solid-timber equivalents. The same composition runs across the Mernda Coffee Table and TV Unit.

Caring for your sideboard

🧹

Routine dusting

A soft dry microfibre cloth across the top, sides and frame every few days — the top collects dust fastest and shows it first.

💎

Clean between the channels

The vertical channels in the PU fronts can trap dust — a soft brush or vacuum brush attachment lifts it out gently. For marks, a barely-damp cloth; no harsh cleaners or scourers.

🏺

Protect the top

Coasters or felt pads under lamps, decor and anything heavy or scratchy — the top is the most-touched surface and shows marks first.

🔧

Handle the fronts gently

Open and close the three front panels gently rather than yanking — steady operation protects the hinges and mounting hardware for the long haul.

Delivery & pickup

Two ways to get it home

Delivery cost is calculated by item and distance — enter your details in the estimator above, or at checkout. Delivery is to ground level / front garage only. It ships flat-packed, so it handles doorways and stairwells far more easily than an assembled 150 cm sideboard would.

Collect free from our Rocklea distribution warehouse by appointment. The flat-pack carton is long — a van, ute, large SUV or folded rear seats will do it. Bring your order confirmation and photo ID. For full terms, see our Pickup & Delivery Terms.

Change-of-mind returns are accepted under our Return Policy; full conditions apply.

FAQ

Common questions

At 40 cm deep, the Mernda sits at the top of the console depth range — it's ideal in a hallway 130 cm or wider, an open-plan living area, a dining room or a media room. After subtracting its depth you want about 90 cm of clear passage left. In a genuinely narrow hall, one of our slimmer consoles will serve you better.

No — and we'd rather say so plainly. The body and frame are particle board with a brown timber-look finish, the three front panels are deep blue channelled PU, and the feet are matte black metal. You get the mid-century look at a far more accessible price than solid-timber equivalents.

Yes — it ships flat-packed. You'll need a screwdriver; an electric drill makes it quicker. If you'd rather not, add our $100 assembly service in the buy box and our team will build it for you on delivery.

Each of the three sections is tall enough for dinnerware stacks, folded table linens, board games, books or media gear — what goes where depends on the room. There are no drawers; all three sections close behind the channelled PU fronts. Internal measurements are available from our showroom team on 07 3161 5415.

Yes — at 78 cm high it's comfortably in the 75–90 cm console band, so it works as an entryway piece for keys and mail in wider halls, and behind a mid-to-high-backed sofa as a console with display surface on top. It also pairs with a wall-mounted TV as a low media console.

Yes — the sideboard is sold on its own, but it's one of three pieces in the Mernda range. The Mernda Coffee Table and Mernda TV Unit share the same brown timber-look finish, channelled blue PU detailing and splayed black metal legs. See "Complete the look" above.

Full details

Mernda Sideboard — full product details

The Mernda Sideboard puts the range's dark-timber-and-channelled-blue design language onto a 150 × 40 × 78 cm three-section storage footprint. Three vertical-channelled deep blue PU front panels sit slightly recessed into a brown timber-look particle board frame, with slim splayed matte black metal feet lifting the body off the floor for a mid-century-influenced silhouette. Behind the three closed fronts, three separate compartments handle tableware, linens, books, board games or media gear.

At true console height (78 cm) with a 40 cm depth, it works four ways: a hallway or entryway console table for keys and post in wider halls, a dining-room sideboard for tableware storage, a living-room console behind a sofa, or a low media console under a wall-mounted TV. The deep muted blue coexists with grey sofas, navy accents, neutral palettes and warm timber furniture. It ships flat-packed and needs only a screwdriver to assemble (an electric drill makes it quicker), or add our $100 assembly service and we'll build it on delivery. Backed by a 1 year warranty.

Images are for illustration only; the actual product might be slightly different — we highly recommend you visit the store before the purchase. The Mernda Sideboard coordinates with the matching Mernda Coffee Table and Mernda TV Unit — same brown timber-look finish, channelled blue PU detailing and splayed black metal legs.
