The Canberra Gas Lift Bed Frame is built on a simple design principle: maximum storage shouldn’t force a trade-off against warmth or visual interest. Most storage beds choose one or the other — bulky drawers that break up the silhouette, or hidden lift mechanisms paired with flat blank panels. The Canberra carries whisper-quiet gas lift storage beneath the mattress platform, an integrated bookshelf headboard across the top, and vertical fluted detailing running across both the headboard and the base — all in natural honey eucalyptus timber with the grain visible. Three Features That Don’t Usually Live Together

Gas lift storage, a bookshelf headboard, and all-over reeded fluting — the Canberra is the only bed in our range that brings all three into one piece. The gas lift mechanism turns the entire bed base into a full-footprint storage cavity. The integrated bookshelf shelf across the top of the headboard takes books, candles, framed photos, and bedside essentials. And the vertical fluting catches light beautifully across both the base front and the headboard, giving the natural honey eucalyptus an architectural quality.

The Construction

The Canberra uses solid eucalyptus hardwood for the structural frame and load-bearing elements, paired with eucalyptus veneer over engineered timber for the wide panel surfaces (headboard, footboard, base sides). Eucalyptus is a denser, harder hardwood than the rubber wood typically used in this category — the added density matters here because the gas lift mechanism puts more stress on the frame than a standard bed base does. The finish is a clear, low-VOC sealer that highlights the natural honey grain rather than hiding it under a coloured stain.

Cleaning & Care

Dust the Fluted Grooves Weekly

Use a soft brush or microfibre cloth along the vertical reeded channels — the grooves collect more dust than flat surfaces. Don’t skip the bookshelf compartment.

Damp Cloth on Marks

Wipe marks with a barely-damp soft cloth, then dry immediately. Avoid abrasive cleaners and ammonia-based sprays — they can dull the clear sealer.

Avoid Direct Sun Exposure

Prolonged direct sunlight will lighten and unevenly fade the natural honey eucalyptus over years. Position away from harsh western windows where possible.

Operate the Gas Lift Smoothly

Lift steadily, don’t force past the stop point; close with a controlled hand rather than dropping. Avoid overloading the storage cavity with very heavy items.

What sizes is the Canberra available in?

Queen and King only. Single, King Single, and Double are not available. No mattress included.

How does the Canberra compare to the other gas lift beds in your range?

Three gas lift beds, three aesthetics. Cambridge: whitewashed eucalyptus with a 4-cubby bookshelf headboard — pale and Scandinavian-leaning. Carinda: gloss white lacquer with curved corners and a stepped headboard recess — clean and modern-Japandi. Canberra: natural honey eucalyptus with all-over vertical fluting plus an integrated bookshelf shelf — the most feature-dense of the three, and the only one with reeded detailing alongside the storage.

How does the gas lift storage work?

The mattress sits on a slatted platform hinged at the head end. A hydraulic gas lift mechanism takes the weight, so you can raise the platform with one hand and access the full-footprint cavity beneath. Much greater capacity than footboard pull-out drawers — suitcases, spare bedding, off-season clothing, blankets, kids’ toys. Close with a controlled hand rather than dropping.

Why eucalyptus instead of rubber wood?

Eucalyptus is denser and harder than rubber wood. The added density matters here: the gas lift mechanism puts more stress on the frame than a standard bed base, so the structure has to bear repeated lift cycles plus stored weight. Eucalyptus also has a beautiful natural honey grain that looks better under a clear sealer than rubber wood does in similar treatment.

Pick Up.

You can order online and pick up for free from our Rocklea Distribution Warehouse at 48 Randolph St, Rocklea QLD 4106, but only by appointment. Call 07 3161 5415 to arrange pickup, and bring your order confirmation email and photo ID to the store.

If you paid by credit card, the cardholder must be there with photo ID to verify details.

Note that when using POLI Internet Banking, goods can be picked up or delivered only after funds are received in our Bank Account. We'll email you about this.

If someone else is picking up for you, contact us beforehand, or you won't get your goods.

Your eligible items are dispatched from our Rocklea warehouse, typically within 3 to 7 working days, depending on stock availability. Delivery is to ground level or front garage only — the driver will not bring goods inside, take them upstairs or unpack them. If you'd like assembly or in-home placement, you can add this at checkout under our Assembly Terms.

  • Available for outright payments only (No Payment Plan, Layby).
  • Only available for addresses that are less than 10 km from our Rocklea Warehouse. The distance is determined using Google Maps.
  • Delivery is strict till the garage / ground floor. The driver will not take it inside, upstairs or unpack the goods.
  • The standard delivery time frame is within 3 to 7 working days, and there might be delays depending on stock availability.
  • The delivery driver may call you from a private number before delivery; if the customer does not answer the phone, the driver will not attempt delivery unless instructed to leave goods at the property.
  • The A2Z Furniture has complete discretion to change any policy aspect without prior notice.
