The Cambridge Gas Lift Bed Frame is built around that reality: a whisper-quiet gas lift mechanism turns the entire bed base into a storage cavity that holds far more than any pair of footboard drawers can manage, while a bookshelf headboard adds four open display compartments at eye level. The gas lift base lifts the entire mattress platform on a hinge mechanism — one-handed operation, whisper-quiet hydraulic spring — revealing a full-footprint storage cavity beneath. The Cambridge uses solid eucalyptus hardwood for the structural frame and load-bearing elements, paired with eucalyptus veneer over engineered timber for the wide panel surfaces (headboard, footboard, base sides). Eucalyptus is a denser, harder hardwood than the rubber wood commonly used in this category — it carries the gas lift mechanism’s weight stress reliably over time. The veneer-over-engineered-timber approach across the wide panels means dimensional stability in humid Queensland conditions, where solid timber panels can warp and gap over years of use.

Dust Weekly with a Soft Cloth

Wipe the headboard, footboard, and base panels regularly. Pay attention inside the cubby compartments where dust can settle on displayed items.

Damp, Never Wet

Dry spills immediately with a soft cloth. The whitewashed finish is forgiving but standing water can lift the protective coating over time.

Lift Smoothly, Hold the Mattress

Use the gas lift handle steadily — don’t force it past the stop point. When closing, lower with a controlled hand rather than letting it drop.

Don't Overpack the Cavity

The gas lift mechanism is rated for the mattress weight plus reasonable storage. Avoid loading the cavity to the brim with heavy items — spread the weight evenly.

What sizes is the Cambridge available in?

Queen and King only. Single, King Single, and Double are not available. No mattress included.

How does the gas lift storage work?

The mattress sits on a slatted platform hinged at the head end. A hydraulic gas spring (similar to the mechanism on a car boot or office chair) takes the weight, so you can lift the entire platform with one hand. The full bed footprint underneath becomes accessible storage — much greater capacity than footboard pull-out drawers. To close, lower the platform with a controlled hand rather than dropping it.

How does eucalyptus compare to rubber wood?

Eucalyptus is denser and harder than rubber wood, the timber most commonly used in this furniture category. The added density matters here: the gas lift mechanism puts more stress on the frame than a standard bed base, so the structure has to bear repeated lift cycles plus the stored weight. Eucalyptus also takes the whitewash finish beautifully with the natural grain still visible through it.

What can I actually store in there?

The cavity covers the full bed footprint, so both sizes give you genuine storage volume. Good fits: spare doonas and pillows, soft-sided suitcases, off-season clothing in storage bags, blankets, towels, gift wrapping supplies. Avoid anything sharp that could damage the underside of the mattress, or anything heavy enough to stress the lift mechanism (rated for mattress weight plus reasonable storage, not your weights set).

Pick Up.

You can order online and pick up for free from our Rocklea Distribution Warehouse at 48 Randolph St, Rocklea QLD 4106, but only by appointment. Call 07 3161 5415 to arrange pickup, and bring your order confirmation email and photo ID to the store.

If you paid by credit card, the cardholder must be there with photo ID to verify details.

Note that when using POLI Internet Banking, goods can be picked up or delivered only after funds are received in our Bank Account. We'll email you about this.

If someone else is picking up for you, contact us beforehand, or you won't get your goods.

Your eligible items are dispatched from our Rocklea warehouse, typically within 3 to 7 working days, depending on stock availability. Delivery is to ground level or front garage only — the driver will not bring goods inside, take them upstairs or unpack them. If you'd like assembly or in-home placement, you can add this at checkout under our Assembly Terms.

The following Terms and Conditions apply. Free local delivery is available on selected items only. If a product qualifies, the offer will be automatically applied during the checkout process. For any detailed information, please get in touch with our team.

  • Available for outright payments only (No Payment Plan, Layby).
  • Only available for addresses that are less than 10 km from our Rocklea Warehouse. The distance is determined using Google Maps.
  • Delivery is strict till the garage / ground floor. The driver will not take it inside, upstairs or unpack the goods.
  • The standard delivery time frame is within 3 to 7 working days, and there might be delays depending on stock availability.
  • The delivery driver may call you from a private number before delivery; if the customer does not answer the phone, the driver will not attempt delivery unless instructed to leave goods at the property.
  • The A2Z Furniture has complete discretion to change any policy aspect without prior notice.
