Use our quick calculator, size table, and layout checklist to pick a TV unit that looks balanced, fits your gear, and leaves enough breathing room for cables and ventilation.
Updated for Australian homes • If you'd like a second opinion, bring your TV model + wall width into any of our QLD showrooms.

Rule of thumb: Start with your TV's actual width (not the diagonal inches). Then choose a TV unit that's ~20–40cm wider than the TV for a balanced look. If you want a more "statement" wall, go ~30–60cm wider (especially for floating / wall-mounted styles).
Always confirm your TV's exact width and the stand/feet spacing in the TV spec sheet—bezels and leg positions vary by model.
The 3 measurements that matter (and how to take them)
Measure your wall / space. Get the maximum width available where the unit will sit (or be mounted), and note nearby doors/walkways.
Measure your TV width. If you don't have the TV yet, use the calculator below to estimate width from the diagonal size.
Decide the "look". Balanced layouts leave space on both sides for styling + stability; statement walls go wider (especially floating units).

Real-life fit checks (the stuff most guides skip)
1) Depth for TVs + soundbars
If your TV sits on its own feet, confirm the front-to-back depth of the feet. Then add space for a soundbar (often 8–13cm deep) and a little clearance behind for cables.
2) Shelf height for consoles & set-top boxes
Make sure open shelves are tall enough for airflow. If you're using a PS5/Xbox + router, look for open bays or strong cable management so heat doesn't build up.
3) Cable exits & wall sockets
Before buying, check where your power point and antenna/data ports are. Units with rear cut-outs make it easier to keep the setup clean.
4) Height for comfortable viewing
A comfortable setup is when the centre of the TV sits around your seated eye level. If you're wall-mounting above a unit, keep the gap practical for soundbars and cleaning—without pushing the screen too high.
Safety note: For homes with kids/pets, consider anti-tip straps for freestanding units and professional mounting for heavy TVs.

FAQs
How wide should a TV unit be for a 65-inch TV?
As a starting point, aim for a unit that's about 20–40cm wider than your TV's actual width for a balanced look. If you want a statement wall (or a floating unit), go wider again (around 30–60cm wider).
Is a 180cm TV unit big enough for a 65-inch TV?
Often yes—many 65" setups look great on 180cm units. Always confirm your TV's feet spacing and whether you need extra room for a soundbar or speakers.
What depth should my TV unit be?
Check the depth of your TV's feet (if it's not wall-mounted) and any soundbar. Make sure there's space for cables and ventilation behind devices.
How high should the TV sit above the unit?
The most comfortable setups place the centre of the TV close to seated eye level. If wall-mounting, leave a practical gap for soundbars and cleaning without pushing the TV too high.
Do you deliver TV units in Queensland?
Yes—delivery is available across SEQ regions and details vary by product and access. Check the product page estimate and review delivery/access notes before ordering.
