Round coffee tables

A round coffee table is one of the most practical shapes you can choose. With no sharp corners, it's safer in homes with young children and easier to walk around in a tight or high-traffic space — which is why round and rounded tables work so well with curved, L-shaped and corner lounges where a boxy table would fight the seating. The circular top also pulls a conversation area together and keeps everyone roughly the same distance from the surface.

How to choose the right coffee table

Three decisions get you to the right table: the shape that suits your seating, the material that matches your room, and getting the size right for the space you have.

1. Shape — match it to your seating

Rectangle tables are the all-rounder: they sit naturally in front of a standard 3-seater sofa and give you the most usable surface. Round and oval tables have no sharp corners, so they're safer around children and easier to move around — a great fit for curved or L-shaped lounges and smaller rooms. Square tables suit modular and corner lounges where the seating wraps around. We stock all four shapes, so you can match the table to how your room is actually laid out.

2. Material — set the mood

Glass tops keep a room feeling light and open because the eye travels straight through to the floor — ideal for smaller spaces. Solid timber and wood-look tables bring warmth and hide everyday marks well. Marble-look stone tops add a premium, high-contrast feel that anchors a neutral room. Matte-metal and black-and-gold bases lean modern and contemporary. There's no wrong answer — it comes down to the look you want and how much upkeep suits your household.

3. Size — measure before you buy

As a rule of thumb, a coffee table should sit about two-thirds the length of your sofa, with a comfortable 30–45 cm gap between the table edge and the seat so there's room to walk and reach. Aim for a table top roughly level with — or a touch lower than — your sofa seat height. In compact rooms a smaller round or oval table keeps things feeling open; in larger living rooms a long rectangle anchors the space. The right care depends on the material, but a few habits keep any coffee table looking new for longer:

• Glass — wipe with glass cleaner or a damp microfibre cloth, then buff dry to remove streaks and fingerprints. Tempered glass is scratch- and heat-resistant, but coasters and heat mats keep it flawless.
• Timber & wood-look — dust regularly and wipe spills promptly with a barely-damp cloth; avoid soaking the surface. Use coasters under drinks to prevent rings.
• Marble & stone-look — wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap; avoid acidic cleaners. Coasters matter most here, as stone can mark from spills.
• All surfaces — lift rather than drag heavy objects across the top, and skip gritty or abrasive scourers that can dull the finish.
